Hong Kong

Hello all. Headed to Hong Kong for a couple of days. Which hotel would you guys stay? Preferably something under $350/night. Any sights that shouldn't be missed? Thanks in advance.

Take the Star Ferry over to Kowloon (or from Kowloon to HK if you're staying on that side) at least once. Ride the Tram up Victoria Peak, if the air is clear the view is incredible.

My company uses the Mirra, the Panorama, the Shangrila and on a couple of occasions the Holiday Inn Golden Mile.

The Langham in Mongkok is decent.
Doesn't hurt that the executive lounge is open 24 hrs and serves alcohol till 2 am.

Mr. vagabond and I went to Hong Kong last month. We had a blast. We stayed at a hotel on Waterloo Road in Mongkok. It was a short walk to Ladies Market where I honed my negotiation skills like law school could never do.

Taking the Star Ferry is, in my mind, one of the most romantic things a person can do.

We also went on the Big Bus tour that lets you get on and off different stops. We got off at the Peak Tram place. The advantage of going with Big Bus is that your ticket on the Tram is included so you don't have to wait in line with thousands and thousands of the unwashed. Be careful though because people still act like refugees and elbow their way into the tram.

The best thing about Hong Kong is the food. Dim Sum, congee, noodles, pastries, Singapore beef jerky, roast duck, steamed chicken with ginger/green onion condiment.

I lived there for a year when I was 2 years old, and went back many times as an adult. It's great every single time.

If you've got a half a day or more to kill, take the train (subway) out to the Big Buddah, take the cable car up, do the walk about. But don't go on a weekend, it gets crowded, I stood in the cable car line about an hour on a Saturday morning.

Here's someone's picts. (not mine, but you can get an idea of what it is)

Important sights in HK? Why yes, never miss those beautiful beacons that are displayed nightly in Wanchai. What a family friendly wholesome place it is. I just love the ambience and atmosphere there. It's a real pilots dream. Lol!

Good tips, I'm heading there this week. If I may add a few questions:
- How hard is it to get from cargo to the main terminal (JS on Polar)
- Cash $$ OK or travelers checks/visa best?
- Does the airport have any mini hotels? I arrive at 0500 and flight out leaves at 2200, so not long enough for a real hotel but a cat nap sure would be nice

Thanks in advance!

You'll clear in with the Polar crew in the main terminal. Visa should work, you might tell your credit card company you're traveling. You can get local dollars at an ATM ~7HK/1US. Don't know about any mini hotels near the airport but there are some hotels near the airport.
