Quick question, if you are home based/have a gateway city, how does outbasing work? Where would you do outbasing? Can you do an outbasing overseas some place?

Outbases are typically overseas. HHN is a common one that comes to mind. However, just because you get an out base for the month, that doesn't mean that you will be sitting around the whole time. The only thing that an out base really means is that it is a cba compliant way for scheduling to keep you out for the entire month. Think of it as being on reserve for the entire month for no premium pay. Yes, you will make more since you are out for the month, but it is at straight pay. In other words, no premium or 1.5 x the pay.

Outbasing has never been offered on the Southern side if you are hoping for that.

For those of you who interviewed in the last couple of weeks, how long did it take to hear from them? either CJO or thanks but no thanks.

I interviewed the 8th, found out the 12th via email from HR. Patience... some people on the FB had call backs within 26 hrs.

Best of luck my friend.

Just did the corporate presentation last week. Outbasing was mentioned, but they did not differentiate between Atlas or Southern. So not certain what the details were or how it worked. Obviously it appears there is some animosity towards the outbasing practice.

Was told during the initial phone screening that the "Southern Air side is going away and it will all be Atlas". Is that really the case or just wishful thinking?

Not sure why someone who doesn’t work here would consider it “wishful thinking” however, Once the union hands over a seniority list in a few weeks (finally), we will move towards a single operating certificate (SOC.) Southern will continue exist only as a few good memories, a few bad memories, and a faded paint job.

Atlas suffers the common problem in that certain pilots want other pilots to fall on their swords. Some pilots who never outbase are vocal that no one should outbase. Some pilots who do not work in the training center think that no one should work in the training center. Some pilots who never volunteer to work on days off think that no one should volunteer to work on days off. Some pilots who don't want to leave for another job and start over think that other pilots should leave for another job and start over.

In short, everyone else should sacrifice in order to pressure management. And they are very vocal about it.

Of course that is not unionism.

AAWW has problems, and a lot of them. But discussions on the Internet have come to be dominated by a handful of permanently angry individuals, some of whom do not even work here. I have been through this process a few times before, and I firmly believe that they do us more damage than the management sycophants.

Gather facts, but be wary of those that are packaged in anger. Then make your own decisions.
