Ya”ll need better hobbies. Don’t worry. After a month of flying in circles. You will quickly forget about the FAR’s afterall- we are essential, exempt, and have waivers for waivers. We go- no matter what. This isn’t your dad’s airline, it’s your great grandad’s. Buckle up.

121.507 and .509 are for supplemental ops. 121.483 and .485 govern flag ops and make no mention of flight deck duty. And 121.513 allows supplemental carriers to operate under what are basically flag rules, again with no mention of flight deck duty.

I logged everything as PIC when I was the Captain who signed the logbook, logged everything as SIC when I was number 3 or 4 on the jet. I interviewed at UPS and FedEx and they liked my books, one of my interview mates was logging 2/3’s and they were scratching their heads. He didn’t get the job.

I keep seeing references to regs that state when one or more SICs are required, however, those don’t specifically address logging time. Part 61.51(f) discusses “Logging second-in-command flight time,” and it specifically says you need to be occupying a crew member station. For me, it would be hard to argue that the crew bunk is a crew member station since it can’t be occupied for taxi, takeoff, or landing. The regs are not written in the pilot’s favor, so I try to take the most conservative approach on things. Also, at this point in my career, I’m not building time, so the additional time doesn’t really matter in my logbook. That said, if you’re trying to get a little more time, this is an area you could pad your logbook and I doubt anyone would question you, provided you didn’t log more that what you’re legally allowed to fly.

Quick two question for the guys/gals at Atlas. When you are flying 3 pilots (1 CA 2 FO), do you log the whole flight in your logbook or only log 2/3’s time as 1/3 you are out of the seat? Also, The flight time for your monthly guarantee, does the 14hr flight for example count or do they break it down to into 2/3’s time. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Example: can the RFO log PIC while the CA is in the bunk? NO, the CA is still the PIC and logging it.

FWIW the OE consolidation being seat time was a rather recent change. I think that happened maybe 3 or 4 years ago. Previous to that you logged everything. You are absolutely a required Crewmember on an augmented crew and can and should log it all. As I said the fellow that logged 2/3’s got people scratching their heads in my FedEx interview.
Example: can the RFO log PIC while the CA is in the bunk? NO, the CA is still the PIC and logging it.

Are you saying that two people can’t log PIC at the same time?
