Take the fastest upgrade. 121 PIC is king. A heavy type is almost worthless if you can't tick the 121 PIC box too in your application.
This assuming you are looking to move on from Atlas. I know you are enjoying it there so if you wish to stay there as a career, then go heavy.

I've got a feeling that 12 months from now they're gonna be back to begging people to apply...

Unfortunately your probably 1000% Correct.

But NOT begging people to stay-they won’t really care one way or another.

If they take care of business with these contract negotiations then it could get really interesting. What if they realize that they need to keep their staffing strong due to Amazon growth or maybe Amazon even upping the pay scale to secure their feed. Hopefully the pilot group and everyone else gets a strong pay raise and somehow the company improves on QOL items

Does Atlas actually have a reason to work with IBT after the decision comes out and the new contract is put together? It seems like they are filling classes and have no shortage of candidates, so why should they care about retention? I have an upcoming class date and also have an interview from a LCC. What is my motivation to go to 5Y other than heavy time? More so what is my motivation to stay when hiring is picking up across the industry?

As it stands now? Zero motivation to stay. If a pilot is fortunate to get picked up by another airline that pays 50% more and has a better 401k match or even a pension, that would be the way to go.
Atlas pilots will have a better idea when a contract is signed. Maybe by the end of this year.
Or sometime next year. Right now NO ONE here knows for sure.

This is the correct answer.

Right now, you make LONG TERM decisions based on the objective information in hand TODAY. For the last five years, there has been too much uncertainty in the job at Atlas/Southern. Everything from the pilot contract itself, to various customers and the executive leadership playing musical chairs.

If you get an offer at a LCC with a LONG TERM business plan, then you go there for a career move. Atlas is fine to check a box. A lot of Atlas/Southern crews have checked the 121 worldwide PIC box and gone on to have LONG TERM careers at UPS, FDX, etc.

If you don't get an offer at a LCC, then you stick around Atlas/Southern until you see how things shake out or you get a better offer from some other place.

Which regional? For Atlas/Southern it looks like the 737 followed by the 767 as far as upgrades are concerned.
Timeframe for the 767; about 3-5 years. That can change year to year. 737 should be less.
