Forgive me but, isn't this why captains are paid double FO salary?

Then since you have all the answers you are the guy to fly with......should have put you right in the left seat, the hell with the regs! 1000 hrs of emergencies....nothing wrong with that attitude.

Yes...if it was a single operation. What are you paid for? Make coffee and shut the door?

I was replying to your previous assumption that since I said that I did not have issues coming from the Cessna to the jet that I did not experience stuff or whatever. I’m no Chuck Yeager but when sh$& hits the fan I’ll be ready and able to follow procedures and the QRH

Again...you can do it all! Experience is way overrated!

No. We also serve the coffee and add sugar when directed.

My point is that there is an obvious gap of experience and that comes with the gap in pay. And yes there is an unofficial requirement to mentor the guy or gal on the right and...keep everyone alive in the process.

Just my .02c

That being said I do agree that if it feels like the FO is useless unless it's a cleared direct (lol) then it's on the FO. The FO should have solid knowledge and preparation.

You could be flying Southern/Atlas 737s on the other side of the world next month. Things change that fast in this business sometimes.

Let’s be realistic here, what are the odds of that happening?

You must be new to this business. Southern flew 737s in Venezuela in the not so distant past. Venezuela is not the other side of the planet but it’s as 3rd world as any other garden spot run by a despot. Take a new captain plus a Pathway Wonderkid and mix in the large rocks of Central & S America.....what could go wrong?
