Atlas Air Fleet Type differences

I have no clue why you think QOL isnt great here. It is in a different planet compared to regionals.
Well, there was this reply (below) to a question about how the schedule may be at Atlas?

Company seniority required to obtain this base?
7 on / 7 off... or some variation of that schedule?
Number of legs per day, and the length of duty period to complete this daily schedule?
Average length of the overnight rest periods?
Length of time on reserve before holding a line for F/O & Capt.?
Years required to hold a Capt. position, whether on reserve or a regular line?
Thank you in advance for your time in responding.

17 days of flying
Amazon mix bag
plan on 64 hours
standard atlas Amazon flying.
we are a 24/7/365 operator. If you’re asking about schedule now, this probably isn’t the place for you.
Translation:
You will have 17 work days per month with 13/14 days off per month. Depending on and type of line it will be 17 days on straight or 60 day split lines where the 17 days are broken up to like 10/12 on 8 off 5-7 on to cover the transition period 6-7 off then 12-15 on then the remaining of 60 period off.
The operation itself never stops as we have planes flying all over the world at all just kinds of times of the day. That is where his 24/7/365 comment is coming from.
the guy asked about the 76 flying, it’s a mix of Amazon, CVG DHL hub turns, Polar Asia run, AMC flying depending on base.
Overall, my qol has been tens times better than my previous regional even with my long ass commute to Anchorage from the East Coast that is positive space. There is hardly any reserve on my fleet, but if you have reserve on your fleet, you get a hotel provided for you in base and then you are getting paid trip rig and per diem while sitting reserve in base (what regional is providing that?). (There’s a reason why it goes senior on the 76 and 73 side).

Not being able to get a base right away happens in any airline all over the world.
17 days on....how many days do you fly on your regional?
Typical Amazon flying.....you know we fly cargo, right?
And other fleets fly for different clients too, but this is as ACMI as it gets in aviation.
There are a few hundred pages to read about Atlas, due yourself a favor and read them or most of it to figure out the good and bad about Atlas/ACMI.
If your goal is going to a LCC, then why would you even consider Atlas or any other ACMI?. And if what you actually want is experience the ACMI lifestyle, then no point in comparing it to a regional.

Great inputs by all to include the emphasis of 17 day requirements, split, etc. Single, Married, Family, responsibilities, etc. that is always a huge factor along with Gateway, hotels, etc. Despite all the QOL differences mentioned by those who have been in your shoes, aren’t ALL the Majors hiring at never seen before rates? Seems like warm body time vs having an resume edge for most carriers at this point so it can’t be too long before the Regionals are drained (I definitely could be wrong, but the drainage part is inevitable.) Granted, it’s a guess that Atlas would be a lot more interesting as a “waiting room” while you await the call.

Outsider looking in here, getting ready to throw my app in. Love the idea of flying heavies around the world.
Wondering how easy it is to move between Atlas and Southern fleet types now that the new contract is signed, ie, if I start on the 73 would I be able to move up to the 74 after the initial (24 month?) seat lock.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Still a 24mo seat lock for new hires with the new contract?
I’ve been out of pro flying for about a year while getting a real estate investment side hustle off the ground. Prior 121 (regional FO) experience as well as international ferry experience and a couple of internal recs so I’m hoping I’ll still be considered. Just want to know what my options are if they want to start me off on the 73; the goal will be to move to intl ops eventually, but understand I’ll have to be flexible. Thanks again gents 👍

The 767/777/747 all require a full ATP due to the international nature of the flying. Assuming that you don’t just have an R-ATP, you will probably have a pretty decent chance of getting the airframe that you request, or at the very least not getting assigned the 737. Your internal recs will go a long way to getting the interview process started. Best of luck.
