I know 747 and 767 upgrade times are currently pretty close together but I don't think that will continue. With the growth on the 767 side upgrade times there should drop a lot. On the 747 side I bet 767 captains start to fill most of those vacancies as more of their seat locks expire.
I guess everyone's situation is different, but it is difficult to see why a senior 74 FO would take 76 CA at our rates. Schedule goes to pot, very little raise, seat locked for 3 years, when you could have waited for the 74 and gotten it before that 3 years, thus possibly making more if considering scheduling opportunities, and efficiencies. The break even point on the 76 upgrade makes little sense unless 74 protracts out 4+ years over the 76.
Like you said, to each their own.
