For the first initial FOs hired directly into the 767, seat locks expire in September and October. That's 30 FOs unlocked in Sep/Oct. The initial 767 Captains begin unlocking slightly sooner.

Based on this info I have a question for those more seasoned than I: in the past folks have wondered whether they were hired to the 74 or 76. When this happens then those folks will be able to bid over to the 747. When a seat opens then they will be able to fill that. Will this result in the 767 now being the entry plane for Atlas?

The way I understand it is if there are vacancies on the 747 that can't be filled by 767 folks, either by lack of bidders or too many people locked on the 767, then a new hire will get the seat. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 767 as the sole new hire airplane after September. Also, with that being said, if you are currently on property and on the 747 with less than three years seniority then you should expect to be in what ever seat and base you are holding come September until your three year anniversary with not much movement up in seniority in your base. That is the way I read the CBA as it presently sits. Most 767 folks can come over and hold a decent quality of life in most bases on the 747 along with the pay bump that goes with it with 3+ years seniority.

Thank you. I wouldn't be here has others not paid of fwd. I have not met a pilot group yet that was as willing to help others as the Atlas group. We certainly have our issues but this hand-shaking; world-exploring, love-to-help pilot group is what makes this place wonderful!

When you are ready to come to Atlas, let me know!

I think, "will result in" is a strong way to say it but that seems to be the gist. There are still plenty more on seat lock and some that even like the domestic flying and sounds like want to stay on the 76 perhaps, so how many will move over vs 74 slots that open up is the question. But the pay disparity and variety in parings sounds like a big motivational factor for many to move on.

However much the 74 pilots make fun of the "light twin", let it be known that there is a bit of jealousy there as we are the side of the house that has the best times! ...5 day layover in SYD.. yeah!

Well, could happen faster is someone convinced companies like Emirates that WE should be doing their 777 freight... just saying.

In regards to future hiring and Atlas's new mins, is it possible Atlas is realizing a lot of their current pilots/applicants will be qualified for the majors and may jump ship the day that Delta/United/AmeriWays/Alaska calls them? Perhaps they are looking for lower time guys that they can confidently invest money and training in, knowing they can at least get a few years out of them? I only ask because why else would they put a stipulation to ALSO accept 1500hr/141grad applicants, with a turbo jet rating requirement maybe to prove they can hack it in training?

IMO you may be overthinking what drives decisions at Atlas HR. My guess would be that lowering mins is a result of fewer resumes, some pilots pulling out of interviews and class dates, and the exit interviews of the pilots who have already left. Simple math.

Beyond that, my recent unscientific poll of the younger pilots here indicates that (surprisingly) there are many folks that I would consider highly likely to move over to the majors who have decided to remain at Atlas ... at least for the time being. Atlas seems to interview and hire a broad spectrum of applicants. Consequently, the retired military pilots who already have a pension will probably stay, the older previously furloughed 121 cargo pilots will probably stay, and of the younger crowd who would theoretically jump ship, quite a few it seems simply like flying for Atlas and may stay (at least until they see what the next contract provides - this will be a critically important event for our pilot group).

Any insights as to where new hires will likely be based? How does IAH stack up to the other bases? I've worked with a retired Atlas pilot at CAE Simuflite and he always spoke very highly of Atlas, now that I'm above their minimums I'm looking to apply...but couldn't feasibly do it if I were to be based in ANC.
