How likely would it be to get the 747 out of JFK or MIA?

ANC is the junior 74 FO base. Junior PAE FO is a 10 month person. Bottom ORD and CVG FOs are about 1 year. LAX, HSV and JFK about 14 months. Al of this is historical data. There was a significant bailout rate at the 3-4 year point which opened up a lot of slots. Who knows what will happen the rest of this year and beyond.

I understand your perspective now. I agree with the new hire part. And personally the 737 position is far from ideal, but who doesn't need a salary to pay bills nowadays.

I have a 73 class on June, and I'll try to make the best of it, enjoy the plane as much as I can and hopefully heal my finances a bit with KY/OH cost of living. Learn from more experienced captains and enjoy not having passengers.

Better this than no pay and getting laid off, no doubt. Long term potential? As of today probably not, but who knows if changes are made. You senior guys know more about that, so I'll pay attention to what you have to share in the cockpit.

Good luck! Don’t let’em kill you.

Seriously. He's not joking. Be careful with us.

OK I'll bite, why careful. I flew fish in the Caribbean, I still keep my pirate patch if I need to use it with you guys.

Oh wait, I got a delayed sarcasm alert :D my bad.

Which aircraft, the 777 or 747, will give a person more time in Europe? I would assume the 747 out of ANC would be spending most of its time in the Asia/Pacific region? Which aircraft is most likely to have you out flying for all 17 days?

747s have layovers all over. I spent a lot of time in AMS when I was an ANC 747 FO. Someone on the 777 can answer for the that fleet. 767s go to Europe as well, but that runs senior for established lines and sort of senior for VTOs.

Twin Wasp 04-22-2020 05:39 AM

The 777 fleet only goes to a handful of places. LEJ, BAH, HKG and ICN are all DHL hubs and the only international destinations showing for the next week. Tech stops in ANC. Mainly CVG with some ORD, LAX and JFK in the lower 48. I see one MIA in the next week.

Atlas scheduling is, ah, entertaining. Yes, ANC trips tend to go to Asia to start. But you could turn right back in a couple days, you could rattle around east Asia for 12 days or you could keep going to Europe and the lower 48 and back to ANC. It’s really a house of cards. Some customers are better organized than others and their schedule tends to hold together. But Atlas doesn’t schedule you for just one customer. So you may do a NCA flight followed by a QANTAS flight followed by DHL followed by another NCA. But if QANTAS is late you can’t do the DHL so they’re pulling people off their trips to cover DHL and you’re not is position to do the last NCA.

As Twin Wasp mentioned, truly a house of cards. Speaking for the 74 HSV, I enjoy the smattering of continents and locations. Maybe 75% of the time or greater “I” leave for Luxembourg, end up in AMS or Frankfurt-Hahn, Ramstein AB, or some other European setting. Then fly some Afghan, Dubai, Doha or Kuwait etc desert stuff or even S. America on a rare case for me. From there it’s off to India or Korea or Hong Kong to get to the Far East. Do some China, Korea, Japan, etc then back to ANC for the trip home to HSV predominantly. So it’s normally Europe first, Middle East, Far East. Several cases of reverse flow from Europe happens which keeps me interested and I enjoy. The “Taco” runs (HSV Mexico HSV round robin) for some people luv, others do not (me). I push the Schnitzel, Shawarma, Hummus, Fried Noodle, Sushi, Gyoza, Chicken Wing runs and my waist is regretting it.

Qantas flights have been smooth in the past (for me), but I have been doing stateside quite a bit due to the Viral thang as of recent which isn’t normal, but then again not much is here. Change, fatigue and being sick is inevitable so that’s a monkey wrench in itself.

I really don’t know how many ways to answer this. If you’re on the 747. The company owns you for 17 days. They can and will send you anywhere and everywhere- you have no rights or protections
