I seriously doubt they’ll be any conversions. The certification process would be expensive with a pretty small feedstock to recoup the development costs.
Maybe Eastern will buy them for their ‘freighter-light conversion’. 😂

Maybe after parts are canabalized they become hotel carcasses like the”Jumbo Stay” in Stockholm. Well, maybe the plethora of A380s would be more suitable as those already have the Bar installed and are numerous as well… Get those young folks involved and make them hostel’s…

Good points. I guess it depends on the price of used -8s. Also tomorrow's economics, fuel prices, etc. No nose load and limits on big pallets may be less important than a cheap way to move 120 metric tons.

I'm not saying I see -8i conversions coming. I'm saying I have no idea what the future holds.

Currently Atlas doesn’t have -8 pax aircraft.
With the market the way it is that could very well change. Four VA -400 aircraft on property, two 400’s that will be retired, that leaves plenty of hope they’ll buy two -8 pax.

There is no such thing as a 747-400, or any other -X00 in the Boeing world. The two zeros are simply placeholders for the customer code.

Boeing has stopped using their customer codes. So while a 747-400 built for United would have been a 747-422, after line number 1534 they are just -8F or -8I. A 787 would just be a 787-8 or - 9. Triple sevens after line number 1422 don’t have customer codes and some where after 6000 on the 737s they stopped using customer codes.

This has potential, definitely the way to go. Couldn’t be too hard to swing and the WiFi is already intact, just get a contract.

I can actually more triple 7 pax birds coming in the future over the -8i.

Makes sense. Probably a few 777 pax birds laying around like the -8i, although they probably are older and have more time/wear, etc. but may be cheaper to operate - heck if I know. How many 777 pax birds do we have? Never really dove into our inventory as of late, or the bank’s inventory for that matter. Good point.

Not that it really matters. Just something I wonder about while reading the news.

Aerostan (callsign "Big Shot"), out of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, actually have two 742Fs operating: EX-47001 and EX-47002, both, as you say, ex-Kalitta. You can tell this because it's the same livery with the gold removed and replaced with white. Looks nice.
Geo Sky, out of Tbilisi, Georgia, is flying two 742Fs with RR engines (ex-British). 4L-GEO and 4L-GEN.
GMF AeroAsia in Jakarta (CGK) is maintaining these and a few other 747 Classic freighters (as well as the now-8 744 freighters resurrected by AeroTransCargo; GMF's 2-bay 747 hangar has been packed for like 18 months). They just put a snazzy new livery on one of the GeoSky aircraft, 4L-GEN, after a 2-month C-check.

Those two carriers are flying the crap out of these planes right now, including a good bit of transatlantic work by Aerostan to South America. Somehow, they're keeping them flying.
Another carrier, Transaviaexport, is flying a single 743F, ex-Atlas, now EW-465TQ. It has been at GMF AeroAsia since the end of July.
