Now, another side to the story is that the airlines might try to expand the E-3 visa program beyond the coast of Australia.

There's a lot of Americans still on the expat market, haven said that. Many of them have also made a life abroad, married to locals and with kids in school so not so easy to just pack up and go.

I challenge you to walk into a 747 new hire class and tell me how many in that class fit this description, or for that many any of the classes.

It is interesting to see FedEx is now actively recruiting on Indeed and other online platforms, Lots of guys here in their 20's coming from 135, 91 world, all good people, even 23 year old female in 76 class!

four in class right now, Alaska bush pilot, med evacuation etc, 9 Aussies as well, I will say they are working hard to get up to speed and why they get 3 sims after indoc for glass introduction, and 74 now has basically 12 sim type events instead of industry standard 5 sims, we'll be here almost 4 months!

Without respecting the need for improved or expanded curriculum we run the risk of creating a masked threat. Lower time, motivated candidates will ace checkrides then carry some critical gap or series of gaps in knowledge or capability into the field.
The same thing occurs with more experienced recruits. But we're talking about whether a critical weight of these gaps make it to the line.
I'll take young Americans any day of the week. We just need to make sure we're serving them right. Some of the big breaks in training we're seeing seem like they could become a problem.

How is this different than any other airline? You cited FedEx as an example. Every airline is hiring from all kinds of experience levels, I know several Gulfstream (And other corporate jet types) pilots with nothing but part 91 time that have gotten hired at the majors in the past 6 months.

Isn't this a good thing? Seems to me that Atlas has adjusted their training program to fit the demographics of the available pool!

As an industry we sometimes draw the wrong conclusions. For example we sometimes conflate having few training events in a course for having quality candidates. That's not right. It just means we weren't investing as much in training. Similar errors happen when people associate high wash rates for quality screening. Places with high wash rates don't experience a drop in incidents or accidents per departure (based on an analysis I put together a couple of years ago). High wash rates just mean hiring, training and checking aren't in line with each other.
Specific rates in terms of accidents/incidents/actions per departure are worth watching. It'd be really great if we could finally get FOQA and LOSA up and running so we'd have timely data to read and compare to other companies. Otherwise we run the risk of making decisions based on irrelevant, inaccurate or incomplete data.

I agree with you, better training develops better sticks, we were big on this in the Air Force, did north of 10 sims a year on EP's and multiple locals a month to develop hands on flying. Was not complaining. As for FredEx I just have not seen them openly advertised, for years hiring there was controlled by the Air Force Academy Lacrosse team alumni!
