If you're a fairly junior FO, it's probably having to do with the fact that those senior to you coming from the 767 filled those lower-48 vacancies, as seniority allows. If you're a CA or senior FO, disregard.

Best to just take the gateway travel on probation, though. We don't have a commuter clause, so there is a risk to jumpseating in.

Good point. What if you live or within 130 miles of the base, would your QOL improve or just the BS?

If you live near your crew base, drive to work and forget all the travel BS. Even if you live a little farther out, say 3-5 hours away, you can drive and company will pay you mileage ($0.55/mile) or you can even rent a car each way, as long as the cost is cheaper than an airline ticket to base.

It cost me something like 11 spots in HSV, but I'd rather lose the relative seniority and force the company to play by the rules. If we don't stick together on issues as plain as day like this then we can expect to get run over on other issues. This was what was right by the contract and I'd already been expecting to lose some numbers in HSV when this happened. If you're stuck up in ANC you'll get out soon enough. Just be thankful the company didn't stick you on the 767 where you get a $4 an hour raise in year 2.

Your QOL would greatly improve because you can just drive in. The company will pay the cost of the drive at a per mile rate. Just drive in the day your trip starts. If you're on a reserve line that might be a little far depending on what road connects the two cities.

which is also why our reserve call out should at least allow those that "live in base" to drive while on reserve. Our callout time is 90 min compared to most places that are at least 2 hours. They really need to match the two...either make the reserve show time 2-3 hours or drop the 130 miles to 60 or 90.
