Is there anything I'll be wishing I had next week that I should consider bringing along? Any idea if the new hotel's wifi/TV will allow a Kindle FireTV stick to work? Has anyone found a decent laundry nearby since there's not one in the hotel?

I know I'll do just fine no matter the conditions. I'm trying to avoid buying something in MIA that I could have brought from home, like an air compressor or a chainsaw .

Thanks to all who've been so helpful over the 2+ years I've been applying and asking dumb questions. I'm looking forward to that 7am shuttle Monday!
I heard that the *Fairfield doesn't have a grill. There is just a mini frig and a microwave. If you're into grilling, I'd consider bringing a tailgating type of grill.

*some new-hires at some Holiday Inn (767 hires maybe?)

We're not at the Marriott any more and stay at the Crowne Plaza just down the street instead so I can't speak to the internet quality. I haven't stayed there yet.

For the same reason, I'm afraid I can't answer the laundry question either.

There is an app available called "Flashcards Deluxe" that does a fine job. Once you get the app you can install the cards for:

747 Study Guide
Atlas Air 747-400 Limitations
Atlas Air Question Bank
Atlas Air 747-400 Air System
Atlas Air 747-400 Fire Protection

I've had this for about a year and it's a lot easier than writing out 3X5 cards and carrying a stack of them around.

Welcome to the family! I look forward to seeing you out there in the world somewhere.
We all wore ties for our type rides, so I would definitely bring one. Collared shirts/polos and slacks/dockers/khakis. No jeans in the training center except on weekends (at least that's what I recall from last Feb). I also brought running shoes & clothes to workout. Found that as a great break from academics each day.

I don't know what hotel the new hires are at, but hopefully it's not the crown plaza as the internet there is fairly slow and that would make getting the CBTs done for academics quite painful.

For those at the crown plaza, if you have an early sim and will miss breakfast, you can coordinate with front desk the night before to have it boxed up to go. You just have to give them a time and one of your vouchers and they will have it ready for pick up at your requested time. My sim partner and I did this for our PC and it worked out well.

Good luck and welcome aboard!

Thanks for the good info. They have me at the Fairfield so I'll find out how well their CBT internet works. Good call on the tie. I wouldn't have thought of one since most of my checkrides have been in pajamas.

Easy peal sticky stuff to hang things on the wall to study from. I also have a 3 in 1 printer scanner that came in really handy.

I made voice memos on a digital recorder and later my smart phone to record items to listen to while I am doing other things...like checklist responses, memory items, limitations, etc.

There's a super Walmart on the east side of the airport so you can pickup just about anything that you may forget.

I did an initial B767 type course at Pan Am in MIA back in 2012. Saw a co-worker in the hall wearing a tie, someone who I'd never expect to see wearing a tie, and when I made a comment about it his response was, "If you can't fly, wear a tie!"

He passed so I don't know if it was the tie or not. LOL

I have seen guys wear a tie for their Oral Exams as well. I would recommend that as well.

Any little stuff you will be able to find since you have a vehicle. There is a Staples, a grocery store and mall not that far away with wheels.

I cannot speak to the tie. None of us wore them for the oral or flight check when I went thru but that was 767 training at Boeing.

I drove and it was really helpful. I am sure with the current hotel situation it pay dividends. I also brought a bike...I only rode it 2-3X but I think some of the local bike paths are routes are open again.
