And we have quite a few of the former-Legacy types that were furloughed since 9/11 and have declined recall notices...they have decided to make Atlas a home, until it lasts that is.
I suppose that is the case for all of us. Wow, what a crazy industry this is. |

Conversely, pre 9/11 there were guys that left places like UPS/FedEX to go a legacy.
I wouldn't doubt that some of them, particularly the ones that went to UAL and AA regret it. |
I have been really trying to get on with Atlas. I am a CRJ pilot and see nothing wrong with that. In a past life I flew single pilot twin turboprop night cargo in Oregon. I have rented a car in JFK, drove to Purchase NY, got turned away by the parking lot renta-cop trying to walk in my resume. I have also email applied 5 times. I have no contacts however if hired I will be Atlas for life. I have over 9000 hours however that may not be enough in this enviroment. I think life at Atlas would be an adventure.
|
I only had 3200 when I got picked up. Keep trying! So far I'm really liking what I'm seeing.

Anybody here interview in late July? Still waiting for a response, some of the guys got the dreaded FedEx visit...still waiting
|
A friend of mine in the late July interview group is in the late August training class...they called him with the news last week.
Good luck. |
Thanks, one of my buds got in that class too. Sweet. I heard theyre pretty backed up and are gonna take a little break, did you hear that as well?
|
Don't know about that.
Good luck. |
I interviewed in the early July class and got the 'pool' letter and have not been called about a class, so in other words I have no class.....
Anyway waiting patiently! cargo |
Sent you a PM.

Is anyone getting called from Atlas that doesn't have an internal rec? I have submitted my app 3x (hopefully not in vain). It's a pretty solid resume with chief pilot and evaluator times noted. Currently I'm flying the mighty FRED (C-5 for those non military types) and run into the Atlas tail most places I park at.
Just wondering how to get some facetime.... |
Atlas Hr Poc???
Can anyone help. Retiring next year from the Navy and am sending my resume to ATLAS. I'm going to email the resume as the company website requests, but I'd also like to attach a cover letter. Can anyone tell me who a good POC is in HR to address the cover letter to. The ATLAS website lists Human Resources and the address. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Wow, good to hear that, ShortFinal. Any luck on the test? Did they call you up for an interview yet?
Good luck. |

Good luck. I was in the middle of a four day schedule and tried to squeeze the test in between flights and was running out of time without being able to study and failed it. Note to guys taking the pre interview test. Don't take it while you're in the middle of something else. If I just could have been on off days to take it, I'm sure I would have done better. It was a golden opportunity lost. SF |
Its quite a challenging test. He his advice, its times or it was when I took it but you must be in the right frame of mind. Some very interesting questions.
|
A good friend of mine got interviewed. He said you have to have an active pilot for Atlas send your resume through there company e-mail address. Also, if you get called for the on-line testing (60 mins timed) you better get a phone patch with all your buddies. Perferably non-sched int'l pilots. The questions they ask are not easy. I was one of the guys on the phone patch.

Minor thread creep
Pulled in to park next to an Emirates -400 with an N-number registration. That put a question mark over my melon until I saw the "operated by Atlas" script on the side.
Is that common for you guys to paint an aircraft so specifically for one of your contracts? Or is that jet owned/leased by Emirates and you're just operating it? Just curious. |
We've had OUR airplanes in customer livery for many years. Some of them you might have seen (over Atlas' history) but not realized were actually Atlas airplanes include:
British Airways China Airlines Thai Emirates Alitalia Scandinavian In each case above, the airplanes were owned, registered, and operated by Atlas Air and pilots (and FE's on the 200s) on the Atlas Air seniority list. Other customers that we fly for are ok with the Atlas livery and their cargo on our airplanes. That includes using their traffic rights, landing slots, and even their callsigns... For those of you that look down on such things, just take a look out of the window of any major (legacy) airline and you'll see a Regional Jet painted in the livery of the contracting carrier...but operated by someone else. It is no different for Atlas. |
 Not sure if I touched a nerve there or what. Maybe my imagination.
No "looking down" coming from me on this issue. How someone paints their aircraft isn't my bidness or concern. Just pure curiosity. Thanks for the info. |
I've had some pushback over the years about that and maybe I'm a little sensitive about the topic. My intention was only to inform, as it has been since this thread started.
This thread is after all is intended for those that are looking to move on to other jobs, and in particular, are considering Atlas as that next step. Sorry, if I stepped on any toes... |
Atlas's founder found a niche suppyling freighter lift to passenger airlines. I've heard QUANTAS management was able to show their pilots it was cheaper to sub out their cargo flights, thus making QUANTAS stronger which was better for them in the long run. England changed their rules and brought the BA flying to "G" aircraft, and we don't want to open that thread. There's always going to be someone looking for lift and it's going to be more and more in the developing world. The down side is, if the economy slumps or the airline decides it doesn't want to be in the freight market anymore, "See Ya."
You get in an Atlas cookpit, not only do you see post-it notes with the flight number but also with which airline we are today. |
Qantas....
|
I spell it out in my head as "Queensland And Northern ..." and the fingers just put a "u" after the "Q."

Has anyone heard of anymore classes after the Aug 30th class??????
cargo |
Heard nothing till high season is over. (Secondhand)
|
I just spoke to a new hire in class right now...he said that there will be no new classes until 1Q2011.
Atlas does not normally do new hire (or even recurrent) training in the 4th Quarter. Flight Ops management wants/needs all check airmen flying the line during the peak cargo season. I'm sure we'll will resume new classes in January and (I'm guessing here) they'll start making phone calls/interviews in late December to fill the classes. Good luck...I'll keep you guys posted if I hear anything more. |
Buddy got a call today and was invited to take the online test, and was told potential interview dates in Sep. There is still a class starting on 30 Aug, but unknown after that when the next new hire class will be....

Can anybody on here give me an idea of their times and experience (either on here or PM me)? I applied about two months ago, but I was talking to someone involved with Atlas and he stated that they are probably only going to look at people with 747 and other heavy experience. Does that seem correct, or is there a chance for someone with lighter jet time?
|
For the most part, what you heard is true.
However, there have been applicants recently to get interviews and even gotten the job offer with just RJ experience, or just corporate experience. The majority of the successful candidates have been from prior airline experience with bigger-than-B737 or DC9 flight time. Almost all of them have previous PIC time on those airplanes and coming from ATA, Kitty Hawk, Evergreen, etc. That said, I will be the last guy in the world to tell you not to apply. I don't know your background, but one thing is for sure...if you don't throw your hat in the ring, you will not get a phone call and you will not get the job. Good luck. |

Thanks, I already applied about a month ago. When I told the guy (who works WITH Atlas, not FOR Atlas), he said I probably don't have a chance. Anyway, I have not gotten a call from ANY airline that I have applied to in the last year and a half, so I figure why not Atlas too. I have 4500 TT and around 1600 turbine (CRJ and Lear).
I'm right there with ya bro. I've sent an updated resume every month for going on 5 months. 3200 TT, 2000 turbine. I'll keep sending one until they tell me to stop :p |
Are there any Atlas 'poolies' left besides me????? Just curious.

For those of you who will be starting ground school, do not be lulled into complacency by the mild tone of the first week. Wisely spend your time on flows/procedures because it will come like a fire hose soon enough.

Gotta say though, the checks always cashed, Connie was straight up (brutally so at times) and had far more integrity than UPS management. Love the avatar/name BTW...awesome book. |
