Atlas Question

I may have an opportunity with Atlas coming up and I'm pretty excited about it. I've been doing some research and spent the past week reading through the other Atlas threads on here.

There are only a couple of questions I couldn't find an answer to and was hoping some of you Atlas guys can help me out.

First and most importantly: days off. How many days off do typically get in between trips? How many days off do you average per month?

On Reserve, how long are call outs? If I live in DFW can I get called out from home or do I need to be at my base just in case?

That's all..I really appreciate any help and insight you guys can give. I really am excited at this opportunity.

Atlas Question

I might be mistaken, but I think you're an eagle guy. Congrats/good luck on the opportunity! Glad to hear some guys are able to get off this sinking ship.

Days off per month - 17 days on, the remaining part of the month is off.

Btw trips - it really depends, varies from 5 to 14 days. If you string them together you can get more off. from last month to this, a little more than 3 weeks off for me.

Reserve - R-1 is home reserve. Simple version - Contact 0700-1200, 5 hours to nearest airport. Other times, 10 hours. Depending on the situation, they may owe you a ride to the airport too.
R-2 is hotel reserve and report time is 90 min after call. Hotel provided by company.

PM me if you have more questions or more details.

Is Atlas still requiring the online test before the interview? If so what material is good to study from?

I read the Atlas Hiring Thread over 200 pgs in 4hrs and found a lot of good info such as QOL, routes, schedules, pay, contracts etc etc...but nothing in regards to the interview or hiring process.Should have a call soon for an interview and feel very unprepared..need help..!.

Thank you, Galaxydriver. I'm sure I'll think of something...if so I'll shoot you a PM.

What's the word on the new contract? What kind of things are you guys shooting for in terms of improvement?

At one page per minute, you must have missed a lot as there is a trove of interview/hiring info throughout that thread! Suggest using the search function.

Talks of a new CBA are highly exaggerated...amendable date is exactly two years away. Negotiations can (per our current CBA) can start 270 days prior to the amendable date.

As for what we want?...why not shoot for the moon?...I am not one to leave a dime or even a penny on the table. It is high time for a very successful company to respect the professionals around the world that move the airplanes.

Sounds good...I agree: Shoot for the moon. I was just wondering if there was anything that seems to be the consensus of what people want improved. I heard that maybe improving the length of trips was one thing you guys were shooting for, but I'm not sure.

Either way I think Atlas seems great. I feel very privileged to have an opportunity.

WTFover thanks for the advise! first time here and not much of a thread guru but found some helpful info just before the 800th pg.

Go to user preferences in your account and change the number of posts per page for your view. That will make for a lot less scrolling in your searches.

It is too early to concede anything since the actual negotiations are about eighteen months away.

One thing that you're gonna hear from all the guys at Atlas is that our company is all about flexibility...well, that flexibility that the company wants in scheduling our flying lines, and the changes that are generated at a moment's notice, come at a price. So far, Atlas has NOT paid a high enough price (meaning, hourly rates, line/trip/bidding guarantees/protections, retirement, etc etc) for this pilot's liking.

That said, it is a good job...it is fun to have layovers in exotic places (sometimes too exotic, if you know what I mean) with great guys (normally!!).

But the excitement of a 747 type rating, or even a 767 rating, can only last for a few minutes (well, a few months) if you are not valued, you are not appreciated as a professional...and that is what we are after (aren't we all?!!), and one way to show me that you care, is...

Show me the money...this ain't no hobby!!

Good luck.

I have been attempting to update my resume with Atlas, can't tell if I'm having any success. Can someone please tell me how a job seeker can determine if anyone in HR at Atlas is actually viewing what's emailed in? They've never responded to my email enquiries.

Thanks

First and most importantly: days off. How many days off do typically get in between trips? How many days off do you average per month?
There is no "typical". It ranges from 1 day to approximately 60 days (two guys I flew with had, basically, 60 days off in a row last summer, by combining their vacation and their bidding). I, and my original sim partner, have had about 30 days off in a row before. The contract minimum between days off is I think 5. But, a lot of guys, like me, have waived the minimum days off in between, because it can affect what line you are awarded (if you work to a few days from the end of the month, and want a line that starts on the 1st, you will not get it if there are less than 5? days off...I want bidding flexibility, so I waive the days off).

We have 13/14 days off, depending on the length of the month. Sometimes you end up with less days off, sometimes more.

What's the word on the new contract? What kind of things are you guys shooting for in terms of improvement?
Nothing. There is no communications from the union regarding the new contract. There are elections coming up for new officers.

No way to know. If you're sending it to the email address on the website it should be working. I would be careful not to bug them too much about just applying. Just update every few months, go to job fairs if you can to try to get more recognition.

Hey man, just curious, are you a Canadian resident working for Atlas?

atpcliff 09-20-2014 12:24 AM

Hey man, just curious, are you a Canadian resident working for Atlas?
No. I live in GRB. I have lived in 15 states, mostly in the Midwest.

My wife is Canadian, and my kids have dual citizenship/passports. My wife and kids could actually get Polish citizenship if my wife worked really hard at it, then they my kids would have tri citizenship/3 passports. My older kid goes to school at U. of Toronto and is now a resident of Ontario.

I have lived overseas, but only have the US passport....have never lived in Canada although I have traveled there a lot.

I know of one of our FOs who lives in YYZ...there are probably others living in Canada, but I don't know about them.

I'd like to add, chances are you will lose a few days off a month traveling back and forth to work. Yes Atlas buys you a ticket to work, but if you are traveling to base it is on your time. New hires are currently going to Anchorage. If you live somewhere out east you may be heading to work 2 days early in order to be in base to get crew rest.
