Atlas: Division of Labor

Looks like things are going well for you guys! New airplanes and growth. Just curious what are you guys hauling these days? How many long term customers do you have?

Rubber dogsh1t out of HKG....just like every other cargo company. Why does it matter?

:D. Just seems like you guys have been growing and growing. Adding aircraft and crews. Great management team in place? Sure seems that way.

Only wondering what stuff you were flying.

HaHa. Would not surprise me.

Just wondering what those guys were doing right. Good for them.

but we are bleeding pilots as soon as we can train them...and that is a fact. We are not (yet) at the lofty levels that you guys occupy. However, that gives us a lot of leeeeevarage.

The Union, the culture, and the higher levels of flying are all putting a lot of pressure on the company...that means we may get to industry standards.

I've got some ideas, but nobody has asked me how to fix things!!...(early openers likely in the fall per our CBA; we shall see how it pans out).

I'm a former K4 guy , who went back to his frac due to the ( familia)schedule, but after nearly 4 years loved the ACMI life ,culture, and flying ( the Whale !!!), you guys are doing it right, I wish you the best of luck with your new CBA,we are making headway with ours in my neck of the woods.

In addition to said freight out of Hong Kong, Atlas has morphed into different lines of revenue. They are CMI-ing around seventeen aircraft, doing the ever increasing dream lifter flying, using five passenger aircraft to move troops. They are bursting at the seams with freight and block hours now, along with a lot of charter flying. They just purchased a new -8 freighter, and have been leasing or bringing back -BCF freighters to handle the additional lift.
As for managenment, the the people in Purchase seem to have a good crystal ball (or put Ms. Cleo on their BOD) to see the future of the market. The -777 program will eventually get a customer (AAWH owns six -777 freighters), and they are the only -8 company in the Western Hemisphere. They also believe that they will be a provider of crews in the CMI mode to foreign carriers in the future.
The downside. Many pilots believe that there are too many airplanes in the DHL service. Pay and benefits are not keeping in line with the industry standard. ( To be fair, much of the blame falls on the pilots themselves, due to mission oriented flights and internal squabbling). The pilots are being worked to the bone right now. Guys are leaving for legacy opportunities, and with the retirements, Atlas has not kept up with hiring.
Growth and new customers? Atlas can't staff for our current work, hard to see how they can add anymore customers. The future will be interesting.
