Atlas Air base assignments

Just wondering how this works at Atlas, with JFK, CVG, MIA, LAX, ANC, and PAE. I presume most pilots would start at JFK or CVG, but I was most interested in PAE or ANC. Are those more senior bases?

If you get assigned the 747- ANC is the most jr. All new hires start there. You can have a good line in ANC within about 3 months after IOE. (IOE wait times can be as long as three months though after your checkride on the 747 side of the house)
PAE for FOs can be around a year to get. You will probably get LAX sooner than PAE though.
On the 767, its CVG and JFK.
Go to the Hiring section of APC and read through all 1300+ pages for more insight. Also read threads through the Charter and Cargo sub-forums.

Since they are hiring a gazillion Alaskan Cessna 180 and piper cub bush pilots who live in Alaska you won't be based in anc long if at all.

You mean Atlas is hiring cub pilots because things are sooooo bad there?

Maybe. I don't know why you'd hire a cub pilot into a 747, but it's probably because they know they won't leave for a much better job like more qualified applicants.

Atlas is hiring pilots that want to be Atlas pilots.

Yes. Just a guess but probably due to guys waiting months and months for OE. It means you will wait longer for a class date.

Actually, one of the instructors is out on MED.

This. And, fixed it. Probably the biggest reason for the 767 April 11th class postponement.

As far as ANC goes, they're actively recruiting guys who live in ANC already. Have a buddy who got vacuumed up because he's an ANC local who won't be leaving town any time soon.

That said, he' s pretty pumped at working for Atlas.

What a wonderful reason to employ someone to fly your 380 million dollar jet. Because of where you get your mail delivered.

I understand that the company will pay for a ticket to domicile. I'm just wondering the time frame to get a specific domicile, like IAH. Any thoughts on which aircraft etc is best for trying to get into each domicile/how many months?

The 747 is the only aircraft with a IAH domicile. How long to hold IAH on the 747? Who knows, it could be three years (if you get the 767), or it could be several months after being on the line.

JFK and IAH are going senior for -400 F/Os, about 2 years.
