Maximum flight time
 

I am reading something contradictory in my studies. I was wondering if I could get some input here.

121.481 states:"The maximum number of hours a pilot may fly in 24 hours is 8".
117.11 states:"No flight crew may accept an assignment or continue an assigned flight duty period if the total flight time
a)Will exceed the limits specified in Table A in figure 488 on page 10 if the operation is conducted with the minimum flight crew.

The table states that if your show time is between 05:00-19:59 your max flight time is 9.

What's the difference and which one is right

Depends on which operation you fly under. Most passenger airlines are under 117. Cargo under part 121.

The 121 cargo carriers are excluded from 117.
