Default Bringing Firearm aboard Private Aircraft in Canada

Im a Canadian and I might be doing some flying in Northern Canada next summer (non-commercial). I was wondering the legality of bringing a firearm with me, am I allowed to for protection? Also, although it may be legal, will bringing a firearm on board void the insurance?

Thanks!

Don't rely on internet advice for something like that! Call the RCMP. I've never heard of an insurance exclusion for guns, but call them too.

However...

In the northern lattitudes I know specific survival gear is MANDATORY, at least in the winter, and that includes a hunting firearm IIRC. So I don't think it would be illegal.

When I worked up north we had firearms on many, many flights. I believe it is alright as long as it is unloaded and transported properly. Other than that I'm not too sure what the problem would be. Make sure its unloaded and pointed AWAY from the cockpit.
