Again, with respect, No. This thinking will get you into trouble. Whitlow did not interpret anything in 121.471 to mean you must have 8 hours rest in a 24 hr period. In fact you may be required, depending on your scheduled and actual flight time, to need anywhere from 8 hours to 12 hours of rest in a rolling 24 hour period. Your "duty-day" can be either 15 or 16 hours during a rolling 24 hour period. You can not just assume you will always have a 16 hour duty day.

Crew schedulers are not licensed and certified by the FAA. I've personally had a crew scheduler change ACARS times twice to try to make me legal.

I've heard of the Man changing ACARs times before, but, have to admit that I don't write the times down or compare them after the fact.

If I did become aware of it, I'd file an ASRS report on the change since I tend to base my duty time decisions based on the computer's data versus trusting my own math
