How to doc "supervised PIC" from Comm Multi
Does anyone have a source for a relatively definitive answer to how to document/log supervised PIC time when training new multiengine students?
I'm just not sure how to log this in the students book and my own.

I would make a note in the remarks section of each flight stating that this is supervised flight time in lieu of PIC per FAR 61.XXX.
Do NOT log it in the PIC column...is it NOT loggable PIC, but rather time that can be substituted for PIC for the purpose of aeronautical experience requirements for a rating.
If an empty column exists in the log book, I would use a separate, labeled column to log it.
The problem is not the FAA, they understand this, but rather potential future employers...many folks are not aware of this legal loophole.

"Performing the duties of PIC" and the CFIs presence as the "real" PIC is strictly for insurance reasons, not for instructional purposes.
How the CFI logs is is a good question. My bet is that most will log it as PIC because he is performing one of the duties of an authorized instructor.

I agree. There's nothing specific I'm aware of, but it is technically not "dual" either.

As far as dual...that's a good question, but I would think that since the FAR mentions "authorized instructor" that it would be dual.
