Flying to work
Please educate me,
If you live outside your domcile and live at an air park, but fly to the domcile, how does that effect your "duty hrs" for flying for an Airline? Does your flight to work count against you or is that just consider a comute? Thanks! |
As of right now, it is no different than driving, non-reving, or jumpseating to work. Commercial flying counts against flight time limits, but not recreational/personal flying (or military reserve flying).
The new rest/duty rules may specifically state that nonrev/jumpseat travel is not legal rest, but that whole concept is stupid, ill-thought-out, and specifically intended to punish traditional commuters. The wording is likely to be even stupider than the intent, so unless it occurs to someone to specifically include piloting one's own aircraft I doubt that would be affected. |
I toyed with the idea, even better when your employer picks up the tab. Problem with my airpark is that it's VFR, G airspace.

Clipper, valid point but question for you as I'm learing the ins and outs (not in the industry, getting educated and researching). How does your air park VFR/G airspace affect you if you're IFR rated and the weather is at or above minimums? I understand to land you need an ILS, but to take off, as long as you have a flight plan or does that matter? |
