logging time question

Alright alright don't hang me out to dry if this question comes off as dumb.
I flew about 15 hours, all of which are xc in a friends plane sitting right seat, but he's not a CFI and I was about 3 weeks shy of my license so I didn't have it yet. Is there any way I could log these hours now that I have my license?

JPilot23 10-09-2011 05:22 PM

No. And why so desperate for hours?

Mike400 10-09-2011 05:30 PM

Not sure if "desperate" is anyway to put it. But a 15 hour trip from VA-WI and some cape cod flying for the first time are hours that would be nice to log

Fair enough, didn't mean to come off cold, just wondering if there was a motive to log it. Most people don't get to do long trips like that before the private, that's cool you had that experience

No not legal to log it. You could do it as safety pilot if the other guy was under the hood and you had your PPL.

You're just gonna have to count that as good experience, not flight time. Contrary to popular belief, flight time and experience are not always the same thing.

Rule No 3.: passengers don't log time (I couldn't tell from the post whether you or your friend were flying). Not in seat 26C in a 757 nor in a Cessna 172.

Rule No 2. Student pilots can only log time they (a) receive instruction or (b) are lawfully flying solo

Rule No 1. (might as well learn it now) The rules about logging flight time are collected in one reg - FAR 61.51. The answer isn't always crystal clear (which is why there are formal interpretations available) and sometimes to have to go elsewhere also, but the answer always starts there.

Got my answer from the first two posts, thanks....
