If you hold an ATP and type rating in the aircraft you are flying on the legs when you are the one flying (sole manipulator of controls)...

Can you sit right seat / first officer and log PIC time? Im specifically talking about the future regulations regarding First Officers getting ATP's and Full Types.
Technically you are qualified as a Captain but the only thing is you are not signing for the airplane.
You cannot log PIC as "The PIC" in this situation because you are not "The PIC".

You can log sole manipulator PIC.

Thanks !
Employers in general, and airlines specifically, have a very strict meaning in mind when they publish TPIC minimums. They are interested ONLY in the time that you signed for and were in command of a turbine aircarft.

They will NOT accept sole manipulator PIC from a regional FO, they want CAPTAIN time. They are used to sorting out various "flavors" of military PIC and they will figure this scam out too very quickly.

Don't try it. You will get blacklisted from that employer.

However...in the eyes of the FAA, this type of PIC is legit. If you really want to log it (in case you apply for an FAA job?) I would keep two SEPARATE columns...one for sole man and one for turbine PIC (after you actually upgrade). But don't think for a second that the majors will accept this just because the FAA does.

You can also use regional FO time as sole manipulator to meet the pic requirements for the ATP certificate.

Mr. Pope's letter came out in 1999, long before SIC type ratings came about. To be rated in what is normally used for an airliner in the US it has to say MEL on your certificate, that's all.

How could you log "PIC time" with a "SIC rating"?

I'm pretty sure this is an exercise in futility - logging PIC when you're not really the PIC (and we all know what that is) is something I've never heard of. It may be some sort of obscure FAA allowance, but in the real world, a potential employer would, and should, look at you like you had lost your mind.

Remember these same people who are digging for PIC time without signing for the plane have got most of their pre-job multi time by safety piloting at ATP and racking up SIC time in single pilot airplanes.

It's a slippery slope...and by slippery I mean vertical in front of a hiring board, but it doesn't stop people who think later on they'll bury it in their logbook and nobody will notice.

When I interviewed for a corporate job before I got on here, the interviewer went to the end of my first logbook to see how I had built time.

Probably every time someone takes a COMM checkride and then looks to see how much time they need to take the ATP ride.

lets say your a full captain for a couple years (atp and typed in same airplane), then get downgraded to fo, can you log the time you fly in the right seat as PIC. Or does it still fall under the must sign for airplane idea.

Having been here for a while as well as doing my own do diligence (research) it is very obvious how logging PIC works in regards to legality and industry standard. And it has all been rehashed already. In my current position though it is kind of amusing to read all of the posts in this thread. It's fairly obvious who the Captains are who are super concerned these FO's are gonna take their jobs. Don't worry the hiring boards know what they're doing, and we don't all have our estrogen endorsement or that other thing they're looking for to check the box.
