High Performance endorsements and 135 c-rides
 

If one has passed an 135 IFR SIC check ride in a twin otter, would they still need to go out and get a high performance endorsement to fly a Cessna 206 part 91?

Not real sure how the high performance endorsement applies to transitioning from 135 world to the 91 world flying a HP aircraft without an actual endorsement.

I'd think you'd still need one (HP endorsement) to fly the aircraft, but I could be way off. Whoever you're flying it for night ask about it, but your 135 check might suffice for them.

Anyone with more knowledge care to chime in??

Are you saying if you pass a 135 checkride in the otter, then all that person has to do is find a CFI to sign them off for the HP endorsement? And that technically the 206 cannot be flown until the HP endorsement is acquired EVEN though the checkride in the otter happened?

Any CFI signing you off has to put his/her signature in your logbook. I don't know of anyone that would do that without actually flying with you.

Hopefully your 135 guy/gal that gave you your check would offer to do it??

Again I'd be interested to read others' inputs considering I don't know much about the 135 world, and I've had my HP endorsement since before I became a CFI.

If this is the case, there seems to have been an oversight... A High Performance endorsement is not on the punch list for any 135 ride. Merely demonstrating operation is not enough either; you also need to understand and be able to explain the various systems that classify an airplane as High Performance. You need to receive instruction in the operation of a High Performance aircraft, then receive the endorsement. This oversight is more common than one might think. To the other question; If you have the endorsement it is transferrable, SE/ME same as a tailwheel for example. Get it, it's not that big a deal.

Regs are real simple to understand. First thing you have to do is throw out logic. Then you read the reg.

(f) Additional training required for operating high-performance airplanes. (1) Except as provided in paragraph (f)(2) of this section, no person may act as pilot in command of a high-performance airplane (an airplane with an engine of more than 200 horsepower), unless the person has—

(i) Received and logged ground and flight training from an authorized instructor in a high-performance airplane, or in a flight simulator or flight training device that is representative of a high-performance airplane, and has been found proficient in the operation and systems of the airplane; and

So in order to be PIC of a HP airplane you have receive and have a record of ground and flight training. i would hope you filled this square before your 135 ride.

(ii) Received a one-time endorsement in the pilot's logbook from an authorized instructor who certifies the person is proficient to operate a high-performance airplane.

Do you have an endorsement certifyiing you are proficient to operate a HP airplane? The reg does not say "or a 135 SIC check in a HP airplane.
