Possible 117 violation question
Question?
Augmented crew which requires 2 hour rest opportunity in the second half of the FDP. If I look at my schedule which has a 2hr block time flight (which includes taxi in/out). Is it legal and and does it meet the requirement for the rest opportunity. My opinion is the 2 hr rest opportunity should be at cruise. This now begs the question for scheduling purposes what should the dispatcher using for departure (time to top of climb) and arrival (from top of decent) times. I am looking for your thoughts and inputs.

Can you give a bit more detail on your schedule. I'm the scheduling committee chairman at my airline and we are working through this issue as we speak. The AA info stated that it was still open for discussion and I haven't seen much mentioned in the ALPA guide. I'm trying to get a standard set at my airline.
FWIW, my upcoming flight has a FDP of 14:45. The halfway point is at 7:22 into the FDP. The first leg is the longest and allows 4:32 of block time left between the halfway point before setting the brake on the first leg. So, both the landing pilot of the first leg and the landing pilot of the second leg requires 2 hours each on this leg. That leaves only 32 minutes to close up the bunk, descend, land and taxi in.

2 hours scheduled inflight rest in the 2nd half of the FDP for the Pilot Landing (on the Final leg.)
90 mins for the pilot performing monitoring duties (on the final leg).
Inflight rest should be at cruise (between TOC to TOD).
Best practices should also allow for any sleep inertia (10 to 15 minutes).
