Walmart doesn’t trust it with a box of Cheerios and you expect the public to trust them with their families?

And how well did that MCAS work..?

When semi trucks, cars, and container ships are completely automated, I'll start to get worried.

Then start worrying. Think Tesla for cars in the US and Mercedes trucks in Europe. and China has two container ships. You won't replace the pilot someone has to man the station, but he won't be flying

I have a Tesla and I'll tell ya it's great but the autopilot doesnt work if it cant see the road, ie snow. And sometimes the cameras get iced up so it cant see. Plus its wicked cautious and cant pick up debris, like a parked car in the road, til it sees it so if you're cruising and there a parked car on the side of the road somewhat in your lane at 55+ you'll hit it before it sees it.
bottom line is it's a ways off still.

Who cares.. besides, no-pilot airplanes would make for a terribly expensive operation. Think about the number if redundant automatic, fail-operational systems that they would have to incorporate and maintain. The obnoxiously expensive software. The remote human monitoring that will likely be required. The operational complexities would be immense, nevermind the developmental costs and hard sell
to the public. Pilots are way cheaper IMO.
Just because you can figure out a way to physically do something, doesn’t mean that it will be a viable business idea.

And at least initially, imagine the insurance costs?

Seems like we have these threads every couple of months. Of course they’ll replace pilots. They’ll replace just about everything down the road. I’m gonna die too.

It’s all just a matter of when. No sense in getting all worked up about it.
