Request for opinions.
 

I need a few expert opinions.
I am 58 years old and I have not flown for twenty years. I am considering trying to get back in to flying and get a job with a regional airline or 135 operation.
At the time I had just completed ATR42 training with Continental Express, then after training a large group of us were laid off because of corporate changes. I didn't return, I couldn't support my family on a pilot's wage twenty years ago. I have 1825 hrs.TT, 625hrs.ME, 30hrs. turbine, 250X-Country,55hrs. night, and 40hrs. Instrument simulated . I am also much more financially stable than 20 years ago.
My questions is, would I stand a chance in today's market and what should I do to get started?

If I remember right you're a little low on night for the regionals but nothing 20 hours of putzing around in a 150 wouldn't fix. You'd get snatched up by a regional in a heartbeat.

Personal opinion is go regional, 7 years is plenty of time to upgrade. Once you've either hit mandatory retirement or want 135 instead you'll have a very good resume to go that route and be a captain quickly.

My only concern for you would be recent experience, since you say you haven't flown if 20 years. That's easily fixed. Get a few hours and an IPC under your belt and you're good to go.

I just transitioned to a flying career at age 52. It can certainly be done. I'm with a 135, but with your numbers a regional is certainly not out of the question even at 58.
