Default Regional or Part 135 PIC

Hello All!

I am currently building PIC in metroliners part 135 and am approaching 1500 hrs. I have interviews later this month with a couple regional airlines and will most likely be offered a job. My goal is to fly for FedEx but I will settle with other major airlines as an end goal. My question for everyone is what is viewed as more quality time that will help me reach the majors the soonest, stay where I am and build multi engine turbine PIC part 135 or go sit right seat at a regional and upgrade after two to two and a half years?

I don't really care about how much I get paid or the lifestyle at this point in my life. I just want to get to Fedex as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for the help!

I like the idea of always striving to improve your position, whatever that may be. Never assume you will be moving on to XY or Z airline.

I then say, apply to everyone. One a job offer is tendered, then you have the decision to make. It my never be FedEx, though I do wish you the best.

Besides the hours drill, there are a host of other issues that come to play in an interview. One needs to pay attention to all details.

I think the best way is to go through the regionals. I was also wondering how you got a job flying the Metro with less than 1500 hrs.

Prop TPIC will not get you to the majors anymore (always a few exceptions).

But if you have enough prop TPIC you might get hired out of the right seat of an RJ.

If not upgrade will be quick, and the majors will call eventually.

Good news, the majors are starting to appreciate type rating diversity, including turboprop time. Show you didn't just squeak through RJ training with the gouge but can actually fly too. But they are going to want to see glass jet time too.

Well thank you for everyone's input!

Mindthatbird, Part 135 captain min is 1200 hrs. I was flying right seat in a jet and turbo prop prior to 1200 hrs.

An update since my initial post: I was offered a job with both regionals I interviewed with but I turned them down. I received counseling from a few people who are involved in the hiring process at different major airlines. They both advised that getting 1000 hrs TPIC is the best course of action before moving on to a different flying job.
