Odd Jobs Before Flying
Currently a 1st year FO at an AA wholy owned with United being my first choice. Currently finishing my degree and doing some more volunteer work. Hopefully upgrade mid 2018 and have been eager to become an instructor and/or recruiter. Before my first flying jobs (both CFI), I worked in a nightclub owned by a family friend and was paid cash. It paid off by allowing me to pay cash for all my flight training and have no debt. Obviously, this isn’t something I would want on a resume but I’m concerned about how to respond when asked what I was doing before flying. I also didn’t take many classes during this time, so it might look like I just sat home and did nothing. Any advice on how to deal with this or would this be a discussion for interview prep?

I have never heard of an airline asking for tax returns, if that's the issue.
They'll probably just call your reference (presumably your friend) to verify you worked there, and were eligible for re-hire.
If you were attending school at all during that time, they won't care much about non-aviation jobs you had while in school (as long as it was legal). If you weren't taking classes, just say you were saving up for school... which was true even if you didn't know it at the time.
You do NOT want to lie on the app and then have that question come up at an interview... unless you were trained to lie by the CIA, interviewers will catch on very quickly that you're not above-board. There are subtle ways to pick up on that, and they are good at what they do.

Jeez man... is this the kind of control airlines have over our lives? Just out with it brother... you worked at a strip club and got to watch nude girls bare it all. If a recruiter has an issue with it, that's their problem, move on to choice B. If you were legitimately employed and your family member corroborates that, I think you're good to go.
