What are my chances with a Major(low GPA)
I know the old adage “you’ll never know until you apply”. But, I’m looking for input/opinions from people that have been in a similar situation as me and have gotten on with a major.
I have a degree in aviation, but with a low GPA(2.4). No excuses, other than I didn’t have my priorities straight at the time. It was a long time ago and if I had to do it over again I feel like it would be a completely different story.
I’m currently flying charter as a PIC on a midsize corporate jet. Just under 6000 total with 1800 turbine and 800 TPIC. Most of my time is twin pistons. The only other issues I might have are 2 checkride busts, my initial instrument and my first jet type. Fortunately, I’ve had 3 more type ratings since that last bust with no issues.
With all the hiring going on I’m just trying to get a feel of where I am at, and see if I stand a chance. Don’t hold back, let me have it.
Thanks

Non minority Regional FOs with 0TPIC time are getting hired at majors because they’re putting the effort into getting hired while plenty of other folks who have more flight experience are being lazy and not publishing/ updating their their applications, going to job fairs etc. to get hired.
Every month your app isn’t published just cost you $25k or more in final months earnings at a tier one major. That adds up to be quite a lot over time.

When I got out of the military, I blanketed the earth with apps. I got picked up by an airline that wasn't even on my radar to be frank. It turned out to be a decent career when all was said and done.
You never know who will pick you up. Apply everywhere. You can always keep your apps current and move on if its not the place you really want to be.

It's worth your effort to apply. You'll get picked up eventually, and you're approaching the sweat spot right now... enough experience, but not too much. Legacies are getting leery of 8,000+ TPICs who can't seem to remember how to sling gear when they get online.
You'll probably 2500+ turbine though. But get the apps.
And don't go half-arsed. Prioritize your dream jobs, and keep those updated, try to do job fairs etc. Better to only submit as many apps as you can maintain... it can be a full-time job. Interview prep is a good idea, do it now so you're not trying to schedule it five before the interview you weren't expecting.
