So if he’s coming off 135 a 121 bust or “asked to resign” would pretty much ding him.
I’ve just left the level where most of those congregate.

Shocking.
Asked, yes. Can you lie when they ask? Clearly you can.
It seems the airline background checks are cursory at best. As long as you can hold a SIDA badge (and most non-violent felons can), you're good.

I have no ambition to be pulled out of class and handed me my walking papers so yes, I’ll tell them about the speeding ticket in 2006.
Present employer I was in initial training and contacted by the security department to clarify something.
Something benign like dates and a former address but it did show they checked.

Lies have a way of coming back to bite. They really do.

D-baggery has a way of showing up also.
They usually can’t hide it long enough.

Anecdote time:
Lifetime ago I worked for a flightschool in FL where the owner/GM had been fired from the Regionals for safety violations and basically banned from 121 for life.
Still insisted to be called Captain and signed everything with the title.
One of the most horrible people I’ve met in aviation.
Karma did catch up with him a couple of times but not enough to change him.
