If you can manage the finances and family circumstances for the first few years, then it should pay off big time in the long run. But I wouldn't delay if you're going to do it.
How are the finances?
Finances are fine. All education loans are paid for, 1 of 2 cars paid for, very reasonable mortgage payment. I can pay for my CFI with cash as long as it doesn't drag out too long.

Does the wife work, and is her career portable?
Wife works from home and has a good career with great earnings. She also carries all our insurance which is nice for me because I'm not strapped down by carrying benefits. She also makes considerably more than I do.

Can you relocate, possible more than once?
Relocation would be a little difficult now because of where my kids are in school. Would they be ok if we had to, yes they would.

Will the family support you?
Yes. Wife is all on board for me getting back in an airplane and has been encouraging me since last fall.

The biggest problem is I'm more or less starting over in regards to knowledge. I enjoyed my time at FlightSafety because flying, sitting in ground class, studying with others who were just as passionate as I was was all I did. Now that I work full time and I'm not around anyone else who flies, it is very hard for me to get/stay motivated.

I did get my flight review a few weeks ago. After 16 years of not flying it wasn't pretty, but it's done none-the-less.

Sounds like you could pull it off. Commuting impact depends on where you live.

Very true. 1hr 20min from Columbus, a little over an hour from Cleveland, an hour from Akron/Canton. Unfortunately not much in between. OSU and Kent State both hiring instructors, but that's quite a commute for a CFI, especially in the winter. As far as regionals go, Republic would be the closest in CMH. PSA is in DAY but that's 3 hrs from me.

If I were the OP, I’d definately stay at the 200k job at least for the foreseeable future. But, if I were you, I’d be starting my CFI rating tonight at a local school and plan to be instructing on the side side by August, full time by the fall. If you live in the right area, you can make 60k as a CFI, but it takes some work, and networking. Better money as an independent contractor, but less students and more work getting students. It will help that you’re in the aviation business already.
I've been working on the CFI rating. I wish my checkride was tomorrow. I'm having the hardest time getting a sign off. The only people qualified to give a CFI sign off are instructors with two years experience. These days airlines scoop up CFI's after one year. My flight school can only find part time two year CFI's who work for airlines full time and getting on their schedule is really tough

Well I still have my CFI certificates, might be a need there to still be active somewhat!

Good on you for not letting it lapse. If you live in North Central Ohio, put me on your schedule

You should! If you walked into any flight school that offers a CFI course and said "hi I'm a two year CFI willing to commit 2-3 days a week to providing sign offs for your CFI students" I'm sure they would be ESTACTIC to have you
