Training Contracts and Interview
 

Just a quick question about the significance of training contracts in the eyes of potential employers.

I currently work 135 and am under a prorated training contract. I am interviewing with some regionals and am wondering if the regionals will care that I’m willing to leave my current employer before that contract is up, in order to make the switch to 121. I have every intention of paying the contract off and giving appropriate notice with current company.

Thoughts? Does this come up in interviews? Do the regionals care?

I don't think it's an issue at all if you pay it off. You're not an indentured servant, the training contract is just a financial contract (which you intend to honor).

You would not want a reference call to uncover the fact that you had skipped out on a contract without paying, and you would not want a lawsuit against by a past employer for that reason.

Don't sign a training contract if you can't honor the terms (time served or reimbursement). Never ever sign a training contract which requires time served but has no buyout option... then you are stuck, and can (and likely will) be abused horribly.

It's not something which is likely to come up unless you introduce it into the conversation.

As desperate as some regionals are getting they may pay it off for you - or at least upfront your sign on bonus to help out like they do the rotor transition guys...
