Beware: OK Aviation Medical Consulting

If you value your pilot license please do not use Lisa at OK Aviation Consulting. I hired Lisa on Thursday June 21, 2018. She told me that she has connections at the FAA and could find out whats going on with my medical by Monday. I sent her the $900. On Monday she emailed me that the FAA was busy on Monday's that she would find out Tuesday. I did not hear anything back from her until the following Monday and she still did not find out anything. Since time was of the essence and my pilot license is very important, I went out and hired an attorney to help me.

Also, part of Lisa's service is to assist you in writing an "amesty" letter. She will send you four example letters for you to follow and use. These letters were terrible and looked like a grade school student wrote them. Again, if you value your pilot license, DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!!! Lisa does not keep her word and her service and company will do nothing for you.

If you have medical issues, hire an attorney who can actually help you. Not someone who claims to be a medical consultant. She probably doesn't even have a medical background. PLEASE...BEWARE!!!

Never use any of these medical services, just call your original faa regional medical office. They arent trying to bust anyone. Pm if you have any questions

I would argue that AMAS has a very long and solid history of providing these services, and is contracted by ALPA to support their pilots. There are some things which you need to get some advice before showing all your cards to the FAA. Presumably there are other good services as well.

WHDC 07-05-2018 11:52 AM

I would say that after using OK Aviation Medical Services, I value my pilot license way to much to use a service like them. Maybe your company is different, but my best advice is to hire an aviation attorney, pay the extra money. That would be your best chance with the FAA.

AirBear 07-05-2018 06:25 PM

AMAS has been great for me, but then I always had it as a benefit, never had to pay out of my pocket. I started using them in 2004 and have used them on/off ever since then. I had to stop flying several times over medical issues and they were a great help getting me back online. My Doc out there has a weekly phone conference with some high ranking FAA Medical types and gets a lot of stuff done.

You might need a lawyer to get your $900 back thou.....

I can stress enough that the faa regional medical offices are there to help. They are not trying to pull certificates.

This is totally true. Look, if you are actually unsafe to fly, you are screwed - at least for flying anything as a job with other people's lives depending on you - but they really do want to grant waivers in all the other cases.

The AME rules are much more limiting because the AMEs are often not that well trained in aviation medicine unless they are former military flight surgeons and they are not granted a great deal of discretion because of that. That goes especially for those who aren't senior flight surgeons who aren't even allowed to do class 1 physicals. The fact that your AME can't clear you if you set off a tripwire does not mean you can't be cleared.

We are busy damn near every day, except when we are timed-out from working too much or on the 4th of July.

Speaking of amateur-ish, grade-school level work, their website is equally laughable...

OK Aviation Medical Consultant - Working Directly with the FAA

JltJltKilo 08-20-2020 02:02 PM

Did I get suckered?

Ok. I am working on getting my c3 medical before beginning my private studies. I sent her the $ under the same sales pitch. Has she actually helped anyone? If so, exactly how did she help?

Xdashdriver 08-20-2020 03:41 PM

Is she even still in business? her website is showing "expired".

If you're doing flying for recreational purposes, you might just want to work with your local AME.

Paid medical consulting services are more for professional pilots, for whom time is of the essence due to income loss.

And even then it can take years and years as you inevitably get caught up in the circular logic and blatant incompetence of the Federal Air Surgeon's office.

Which is why so many professional pilots hide their problems from their AME and the FAA or simply fail to get the help they need. It's been this way forever. And will never change until the entire system is gutted and revised.

AMAS’s big draw is they’ll know more about what needs to be submitted for the most expedient release to return to flying. It is more feasible for professional pilots who rely on their certificate to live. But from what I’ve seen they are definitely worth it, especially if you work for an ALPA carrier.

OK Aviation Medical Consulting is Great!

I’ve read a few hate posts on here, but I assume not everyone is satisfied because they didn’t get approved and are upset? Well, I’ve been on a 1st class special issuance for a few years. I retained OK Aviation Medical Consulting years ago and they got me approved during a very sensitive and complex time in my life. They continue to serve me bi-annually and I never worry about being grounded. Maybe those who didn’t get approved were because they had more than what they initially stated. I heard that can be an issue. Yes if you feel going to an AME or AOPA is helpful, go for it. I just know in my experience I needed help with putting my medical together and making sure it was favorable before going to my medxpress or AME. I was about to lose my job and my home. I don’t care about a few dissatisfied people. I will be forever grateful to Lisa and her company. You have my highest recommendation. People need to stop hating. Just follow your instinct. If they can help you, great. If not, good luck finding someone who can.

You’re in good hands

People think OK Aviation Medical Consulting is just one person. Lisa. She has a staff that work directly at the FAA and also an AME who assists when needed. She also has sister companies with Aviation Attorneys Unite. OK Aviation Medical Consulting got me approved and continued to get me approved under a special issuance every 6 months. Don’t believe everything negative you hear. Good luck

I agree 100% ... everyone I have contacted at Faa have been great.

AMAS was good for a couple of years ... until I was assigned a doctor that was trying to scare me ... dumped them.

As I read this glowing account, I thought: “That’s....:p“
