There are degrees in airport management, aviation management, etc and an unending litany of degrees available in management in general, along with business administration. A quick online search will produce numerous aviation management degrees, in fact. Have you spoke with airport personnel or the county where you're hoping to be employed? You may find that they don't care about a degree in airport management, and may simply have a requirement for a degree in management. A lot of the airport administration jobs I've seen don't actually require a degree, depending on the airport and the jurisdiction. I suspect that you're best off talking to the people who have the job now, or who will offer it in the future, about what will be required. It may be hard to predict what will be required seven years down the road, however, or if a job will be open. |
As of now the job description does require a B.S in airport management. The current manager got in via a political channel but does have plenty of experience with airports and business's. I know the position will be open in roughly 7 years because he will be out of the position by then. I have connections in the airport as I have managed the FBO for 3 years and have been a weather observer for 1.
Seeing that this a management position within a county in New York, the more I have under my belt the better. |
Vaughn college offers an online degree in airport management. You’re in NY so you would pay in state tuition and have the flexibility to keep managing the FBO.
Look into the Association of American Airport Executives. You’ll find more info on management jobs there. This place is geared towards pilots Farmingdale and Schenectady also offer aviation degrees |
