Career Advice
Hello all, I am around this forum often, but usually only post when I can’t find an answer within a thread, or if I have a personal question.
Well, here I am seeking advice from anyone who has a minute.
Currently:
Home based 8/6. Ready to find a better place to hang my hat, and something heavier (but depending upon salary, would be fine flying the same light jets I am now).
PIC typed in the C500/560, and the 525S - currently flying as a captain in a CJ3+.
SIC typed BE400.
5140 TT
1023 Turbo Jet PIC
I live in the Midwest, and have two small children at home. I cannot do the 16/14 schedule right now, it’s just too much away at one time. The most I can do is 8/6.
I’m 37 years old, and aspire to fly for a major or cargo at some point. I have applied (and will continue to apply) at Spirit, and SWA (and of course the legacies).
I’m really open to ideas people may have, and very much appreciate the input!

You're hitting the threshold for the majors.
More PIC and heavier planes would help. 121 experience would help of course, but there's the whole paycut thing.
Assuming you have a degree and a clean background, I would think if you keep pressing hard (job fairs, networking, etc) that you'll get called eventually. Sitting tight will probably take longer than if you jump to regionals or ACMI, but that's the decision you have to make.
Compensation in Bizav is going to have to come up, but you'd probably have to change jobs (more than once) to keep up with that wave. Unfortunately it could go right back down again too if the economy tanks. The airlines tend to have a "ratchet" on their contract pay scales... they don't go back down again unless the company files BK, or the pilots agree to cuts to prevent BK.
