Got out of the industry want to go back

I have SF-340 , BE- 1900 type rating, 12000 total time pic in excess of 4500 Hours. Been sitting on the sidelines through the economic downturn in 2008. I have not flown in some time. Have ATP certificate what is the cheapest way to get back in the game. Looking for guidance.

Do an IPC get instrument proficient and apply to a regional

Plenty of DEC programs out there now if that is your cup of tea and you feel ready to jump head first into the deep end.

I would recommend spending at least 6-12 months (or however long or short) as an FO until you feel ready and then upgrade. You’ll be fine. Just study hard and show up prepared to sip from the proverbial firehouse that is 121 regional initial.

Get your first class medical, BFR, then an IPC. Get familiar with instrument flying again and then start applying to regionals.

Which one?

Where do you live and what is your long term goal?
How long do you got to accomplish said goal?

You’ll have no trouble getting hired.

Problem is the “top” regionals right now have classes filled for many months in advance, so unless you’re willing to wait for a class, you may have to choose from the other regionals.

I’m in the same boat as you, and the advice I got from everyone was, choose a regional that you can be based where you live if possible, or one that has an easy commute as your number one priority.

After that, I suppose upgrade times are probably the second most important consideration. That’s basically why I chose Mesa.

Good luck. Cheers.

B-1900 and SF-340....sound like an Ex-BEXer.......

I thought Colgan. I am in the same-ish boat. SF-340 time, King Air 200 time, my ATP and 3000 hours. Haven't flown professionally since 2015, at all in in the past 2 years. Looking to get back in with an IAD or DCA based regional.

All of our CRJ new hires are getting IAD out of trading. Take a look at Mesa.

Quick upgrades also.
