Silver airways, interesting. I know a couple of folks who fly for them. I'd take a financial bath though! Ughh. $34 1st year FO, let's assume 90 hours pay for a month, plus per diems, and sign on bonus (12k right now??), I'm looking at about 50-52k first year, I guess. Then year two about 40k (1 dollar increase per hour, no bonus). Once upgraded, I'd make about 58k.
As the bread winner in my family with 2 kids, one in college, one in high school...yeah, would love to go back into aviation now.
But gheez...going from a $130K+ year IT job, with great benefits, home every night etc...is hard to go back into aviation. Nothing has really changed when it comes to new hires and money. It takes a long hard road/path to finally get somewhere. Same with many careers. But aviation being so "desperate" for talent...kind of silly the pay they offer. We pay interns at my company more money than most F/Os make their first year or two...I'm not kidding.
Silver air, since I'm in Tampa, sounds like a cool opportunity, maybe in 8yrs when I'm about 60yrs old and my kids are out of college...and I might have a shot at retirement...but that is a huge backwards path in income...
Wow! A $12K hiring bonus!!! So what!?! I make that much in 1 month now!!! See the dilemma? Good luck attracting people except the younger or single who are willing to work for peanuts, reason I left to begin with.
Miss flying...would love a job like that, if it paid more money!!
Of course, maybe I get fired from my job and need to find something else...well...guess flying is an option for sure! I should go get current and brush up on my radio and scan...surely it would come right back.
Good luck...
