Clearly, this person’s experience is not in the US.

There are “ab initio” programs in other countries. I’ve flown with a few 300 hr. FOs while flying in Japan. Hired after college, went and got their ratings, then were hired. They didn’t go to flight training right away. They worked at other posts in the company for a period of time, then to flight training.

Cadet programs common in many countries abroad. Individuals earn their ratings at approved flight schools. Then, ala EZJet, and RYAN Air, interview. Obtain type Airbus/Boeing type rating from an approved ATO. Average time before siting in the right seat of the jet is 275 hours TT. Other carriers hire and provide training with a bond after individuals earn their IR, MEL, and CPL.

Yes, and many thousands of other flights that didn’t crash had low time FOs as well. I believe firmly in the ATP rule but we really can’t generalize like that. There have also been crashes where the pilots had thousands of hours.

Just using it as a reference point that airlines do intake pilots out of 'training'.

Uncle Sam not only turned us loose in a plane with only a few hundred hours but it was loaded with things that go 'boom'.

They didn't call it the "Bloody Eighth" for nothing.

My ATP/CTP class a few months ago had 6-7 CFI’s from Lufthansa Flight Training, said they were all going direct to United.

True, but a low experience pilot usually can’t handle it when things go seriously “off script”. That said, I’ve seen lots of multi-thousand hour pilots who couldn’t either and I mean a simple pre-briefed QRH IA procedure in the sim.

Uncle Sam also have us 1000 hrs worth of high intensity training crammed into 200 hours!
I was wondering, if I can go directly to the NY Yankees from little league?
