Question Traffic Violations and Hiring

Hi All,

I have done some research on this topic on the forums and haven’t come up with a clear answer. I have a speeding ticket that was dismissed from last year, and a recent red light ticket which had the drivers license points dropped and fine reduced. I’m fully aware of disclosing this information on any job applications that ask and am prepared to fully own up to my mistakes in any interview. I’m currently a cfi building hours to go to a regional. I’m wondering if these tickets, with one being dismissed, would disqualify me from regionals/LCC’s/Majors one day. Thanks.

Regionals? No.
And if this doesn’t become a recurrent theme, not the majors either.

I’m thinking every single pilot has had a traffic violation at some point.
I call that just being normal.
Just don’t make it a habit.

Non-event, especially if you're young. Don't have a pattern of traffic violations much after age 20.

You’ll be fine, just don’t create a trend or pattern.

Do your own research, but red light cameras are usually civil violations, not even traffic violations.

My son (22 years old) got a speeding ticket in an adjoining state (Kentucky) last month. 87mph in a 65mph zone. The officer did not have the "proper" speeding ticket form to give him and just gave him a notice of "violation" paper. Told my son he was out of tickets. He gets a notice from our home state that his driver's license will be suspended in 60 days if the fine is not taken care of. On the paper the officer gave him the date of offense was 9/11/2022 and the court appearance date was 9/09/2022. How can he show up to court 2 days prior to getting a ticket? Is this enough of an error to have the matter overturned? Pay the fine (don't even know how much as that was not specified) or get a local lawyer in the county and state of offense? It's about 150 miles from where we live and he's in college another 180 miles further north. He accepts that he was speeding but there seem to be enough "technical" errors here to have it dismissed or is he wrong about that. What should he do?

Get a lawyer and get it thrown out.

Something nebulous like that might be assumed to be a plea deal for reckless or DUI, he does not want it on his record because that's not a story he wants to tell at an interview. They simply won't believe it... and they don't have to prove jack, just be suspicious and you're done.

Also, ANY suspension of your DL, for any reason, has to be reported to the FAA and they will then ask questions about substance use/abuse.

Get a local attorney. Far cheaper in the long run.

tickets and credit worthiness are a big deal for TS clearances (military, fed govt). In civilian world, try to minimize tickets because it points to "judgement" and "decision making ability."

You can likely obtain your own record from the state you are licensed to drive in, check the state DMV website.
