Can't pass class... need suggestions

So I have literally one class left that I need to graduate and cannot pass it for the life of me. It's an upper level math class. Any ideas on how I can possibly "get around it" or do something to pass it? I have all my ratings up through MEI, do I really need the degree if I were to go the corporate route?

Have you looked into getting tutoring from an associate/assistant professor or fellow classmate?

Yeah, tutoring you need someone who can delve into with you to understand YOUR particular hangup with the subject at hand.

You may need to revisit the foundations or building blocks of the math in question... for example differential equations will be hard (to say the least) if you don't have a solid grasp of algebra and calculus.

Can you take it at a community college? I tried taking a high level math class at my university and it was very difficult. Professor had a vey thick accent that was impossible to understand. Hundreds of students. Dropped the class enrolled at a local community college. 12 people in the class, teacher was very helpful and knowledgeable. Got a B.

Can you take the class online? I find that online works best for me, since I can go at my own pace and focus on the parts that i have to most trouble with. Do not give up on a degree just because of one class.

Your question brings back fond memories for me. I too struggled with Calculus 1, required course. Fortunate for me, my roommate was a math whiz. I heavily supplemented his “hydration” in exchange for his tutoring, and I successfully passed with a “C” in that class.

A bit off-topic, but as a funny aside.....

Were any of you told in middle school by teachers /guidance counselors that one had to be good at math to be a pilot?

I was, and I find it absolutely hilarious that they said that and actually believed it🤪🤪.

One night my mother visited the cockpit. She looked around and said, "And the boy who hated numbers."

But in those they used Roman numerals.....

I second the suggestion for a tutor. If you’re down to your last class, don’t just give up here. Seek help and power through it. You’ll be glad you did.

Ha I feel your pain! Took me 3 times to pass calculus.

1st time: 4 out of 30 passed in my class. Guy was a tool and a know it all. Loved seeing kids struggle. He got fired.

2nd: Tried hard but apparently not hard enough, failed by 1 percent.

3rd: Went to a community college over the summer to pass the class, and got a tutor. It was the only class I had to focus on...Problem solved-so much easier. I have always been horrible at math, if I can do it you can too.

See if your school will let you take it at a community college and transfer the credit. I went through ERAU they were a bit picky about it but let me, so will most schools I’m sure. That was literally the only class that gave me issues.

Basic calculus is all repetition. Work on the homework problems over and over until you are correct every time. Just like limitations or memory items: its all how hard you work. Engineering calc is a little different in that you have to apply it to problems. That’s not what we’re doing here.
