Trying to keep my options open...

I was wondering if anyone had good ideas on ways to keep up my flying credentials. As background I am a former AF pilot with about 3K hrs (plenty of PIC, IP and EP time), but when I left the AF I got a non-flying job...great pay/neat job, but I manage aviation, I don't do it.
I've no bad marks in my record (no DUIs, checkride busts, etc) but I'm very non-current and getting more so every day. The final issue is I live in Europe which makes "renting a C-152" every other weekend not an option.
Are there any options which would be good at keeping up or refreshing skills and that would look good to an airline if I decide to go that way at some point?

In part I'm asking as I jokingly said I needed to get my ATP as my continuing professional development and the response was "sure, we'll send you back to the states to get one."

Two options:
1. Keep doing what you are doing.
2. Take advantage of the best opportunity in decades by going back to CONUS and flying for a regional for six months before moving up to a multimillion dollar career at a legacy.
