What I think it’ll come down to is was that a period in your life that was reckless but now you’ve turned a new leaf or is it a pattern that continues to this day? They’ll look at someone who had a bunch of tickets in their teens and 20s but have been clean for 5+ years vs someone whose gotten a ticket or two every year for the past 7 years...

Either way your best shot now is to keep a perfectly clean record from now forward to have as long a good track record as possible.

Also, when you say “traffic offenses” keep in mind that DUIs are on a different level than speeding tickets.

Depends. If these all happened when you were sixteen you have plenty of time to live it all down. If you are fifty and it happened last year, not so much. Any of these alcohol or drug related though?

You are going to have to disclose traffic offenses on your application for medical. The FAA can deny the issuance of your medical depending on the regency and the nature of your misfortunes. Better idea to get advice from an aviation attorney.

As alluded to already, the nature of your traffic offenses is very important. If they do concern you, it might be best to go to a regional with a flow even if you do intend to still apply to Delta. That said, that is a lot of traffic offenses.

Airlines don't ask about or research accident history. They will normally just look at the citation history. They wouldn't normally ask about the details of garden variety moving violations, but they would ask about reckless, and of course anything DUI related.

It's possible they might research your civil history, so they might find it if you got sued over an accident.

If your tickets were all garden-variety (minor speeding, ran a stop sign, illegal turn, etc) AND you were very young (teenage, or well under 25) you can likely overcome this if you keep your nose clean. But due to the history you need to drive like Mother Theresa, I mean ZERO infractions until you're off probation at your career airline. Then you can buy a maserati and go to town if you want. You also need to be able to explain what you learned and why you changed your attitude... they will need to believe it in their hearts, reckless is not a trait they're going to tolerate.

You also need to keep a clean record in all other things, since you effectively already have one "strike" with the airlines. And one or just maybe two is about all they tolerate (better majors).

Now if you got the tickets at a more advanced age, or you have more than maybe one reckless, it's likely to be harder...

Regionals will hire almost anyone. You'd be fine for that.

Lower-tier majors have already lowered their historical standards, with the looming retirements you'd have a shot there I think.

Top-tier will always be a bit more picky. Whether you have a shot there depends on the details, and how you address it at an interview.

Never had a DUI offense, and they are all over 6 years ago.

Remember, most of the majors and even the ULCCs are shooting down applicants with clean records, but American will take you with arms wide open. No degree, no problem. Numerous traffic citations, reckless driving, possession of MJ, etc...good to go boss.

Lots of former hell raisers like myself are getting second chances at a top tier job and it's a beautiful thing. Just apply at AA's regional carriers, be very up front, and disclose EVERYTHING.
