Question Coming Back from Medical

Hello! Any help you can give me would be very much appreciated. I was on Medical Leave from a regional airline. I got fired when I ran out of time to go back. I now have my First-Class Medical, and want to apply to a regional airline. I am an ATP with two Type Ratings, am a current CFI, and have about 5,000 hours, with a lot of PIC time. I am going to study the Gleim ATP preparation and Instrument preparation to get ready. My question: What should I do, in terms of flight preparation, to apply? Should I get my Instrument Rating current? Should I log simulator time? Any help you can offer would be great. Thank you!

Getting current in instruments is never a bad idea. But unless it has been an exceedingly long time and your type ratings are in DC-3s and 4s, it’s difficult to believe you’d have a problem. If you’ve worked at a regional before you know what it took to get through Training, and trust me, it’s only gotten easier.

Thank you for your reply! I am looking at a regional that flies what I have flown. So, my understanding is that it would be good to know the systems for that aircraft, as well as the usual ATP material, how to read plates, answer the usual experience and situational questions, etc.

Depending on the regional, you’ll probably get a week or two of computer based training - probably home-based to start. Plan on knowing the flows, call outs, and aircraft limitations before you show up for actual classroom training. If you cared to share the name of the regional or - better yet - actually post your question in the hiring thread of that regional, they could probably give you specific gouge for your new regionals training.
