Yes I will get a degree in aviation because that's the path I want to take. With the pilot shortage going on I think it's a good investment. Not to mention, I have a certificate in electrical trades, I plan on getting a dispatcher certificate as my plan C.
Try it out.. and if you think you want to do it go for it. Too many people in this world going through their lives with what ifs.

What do your parents do for a living? They seem aware of the potential pitfalls with a pilot career.

I would recommend a degree in something that would assist with your "b"plan, after all there's no degree that will help you fly an airplane.

They are nurses. They saw what happened in 2008.

Wonder if they failed to notice that the same thing happened in 2008 to many various industries around the country, except maybe nursing.

It is probably a good thing, but maybe once you have some experience on the board you would understand that a new poster coming on and asking every sound it’s question are often trolls.

In any case you have been given some good advice.
Good luck putting it into use.

In another post you said being a pilot seems "challenging and fun". It is important to understand more than what makes it simply fun and challenging. When looking at any career, one must understand the subtle factors of what could hold you back and what it takes to be successful. You are under the umbrella of the federal government so any arrests, convictions, medical or prescribed drug history could prevent you or hold you back from getting hired or maintaining your class 1.

Many people dream to be a physician or attorney. Not everyone does well on their MCAT or LSAT. In a similar way, many dream to be a comercial pilot but fail their checkride. All that adds up when trying to apply to your dream airline that you want to have your whole career with. Flight training vs airline training is another factor which could make "challenging and fun" turn into overwhelming and miserable. You can take your time and do your flight training and earn your ratings and certificates over the span of 1-2 years, no problem. Airline training is fast paced and not an environment where someone can hold your hand if you fall behind. Washout is not uncommon and is something you need to prepare yourself to avoid.

Those are just a few tiny examples. If you really did your homework, jump in and I hope the best for you. Otherwise flying would be better as a weekend hobby.
