This might be the easiest and cheapest way to get started. Some Regionals will pay for the ATP CTP course and you can then combine the type ride with your ATP checkride. At a Regional you will get some 121 experience and they will upgrade you after 1000 hours 121 time, so you will get TPIC pretty fast to improve your resume.

Yes you can absolutely do it that way. I did the same. Even after the conversion you will still have your EASA license independently.
For a legacy job you absolutely need to have a 4 year degree. But with your 2 year degree I’m sure you can finish a 4 year degree online pretty fast. You will also get credits for the FAA ATP. Unfortunately nothing for the EASA license.

Hi all,
First of all apologies if this is not the correct place for this post.
I am a 25 year old Portuguese national currently living in the UK. I fly for a major low cost airline and have around 2,500 hours as a First Officer on the A320 Family. My current licence is an Austrocontrol (Austria) EASA ATPL Licence. My girlfriend (soon to be wife) is Portuguese-American and has a US Passport. We both would love to move to the US but the whole process for me sounds so confusing and complicated.. It would be fantastic if someone could offer some guidance on the steps I have to go through in order to just be able to apply to an American airline.
Best regards.

Were you able to do it? I'm Portuguese as well, A320 type rated with Portuguese EASA license. If you can share your experience I would appreciate it.
Cheers

Conversion with 777TR
Hi there,
I attempted to post as a separate thread, but as I have not posted for years now it seems my credentials have not been authenticated.
Well, hoping for your feedback in my case.
I am going to obtain the Green Card later this year (Family based application). I am turning 50 this year.
I am an active 777 pilot in the Middle East with close to 10K hours total. I have EASA ATPL(A) licence with 777/787 ratings on it plus the FAA PPL licence.
Since we are going to move to the US (California preferably, where the rest of the Family are) I am looking at converting my licence AND the 777 rating to be able to apply for a flying job with one of the cargo operators in the US.
It seems going to cargo airline will allow me to fly the wide-body aircraft right away with my experience and pay reasonably well to support my Family.
I would appreciate any feedback about the process including the rating conversion. For now I have shortlisted PanAm Academy in Florida offering this bridging program with the 777 rating in it. Perhaps there are some other, better options out there?
Any tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot
Dom

Your hours will not convert for 121.436 (CA upgrade) purposes, but your experience on type will definitely make you a shoe in hire at one of the ACMI carriers.

ATPL to ATP
Thank you Dera, much appreciated. Valid points.
I am not desperate for the LHS rapid progression, I need some good quality of life and a bit of respect and common sense, which is very hard to get by here in the Middle East.
Thanks again

There is no point to convert your type rating. You will get your initial type through the airline, the training program is essentially the same with or without the type.

Hi guys! I currently hold a frozen ATPL, Im a first officer on the B737 in Europe but my dream has always been America. Could you please provide any training center or school that you know deals with EASA to FAA conversions?? If it's one that has 737 sims so that on top of the conversion I can add my current type to my future FAA, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance!!
