Current Climate Aviation World

Just recently interviewed and will be receiving offer letter from Planesese. What I am debating is whether or not I should accept or wait. I am currently at 1264 hours, and my end goal one day is the cargo industry, Fedex or UPS. Don't get me wrong, the PC 12 look like and I've heard are fun to fly. But at the end of the day, it will be only Single PIC turbo. It is Part 135 time though. But for career progression, won't really help much besides total time. And the 18 month contract is another con in my opinion. After the 18 months, I'd still have to somehow build multi/jet time.

I was hoping more doors would open at 1200, and then more so once I hit ATP. But am I being stupid for declining a job, especially in this current climate with Covid? All help/suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks!

In today’s environment, take the job, get the 18 months of experience in a busy 135 operation. It’ll be awhile before better comes along.

Take the Plansense job. It will set you up well to transition to the regionals once they start hiring en mass again.

How long did it take from applying to getting called for an interview?

Because of covid it took a while, it may be shorter now. I believe the initial tech interview was in Feb, only took them like 2-3 weeks to get back from application. I then got a few days later the email saying they would like to invite me to do the in person part. Covid came along and didn't get the in person part until now, as they just finally started opening up again.

Congrats on your success getting an interview and an offer for a job. As many pointed out already, it would be wise to take the job. However, only you know the full story. Do you have other interviews lined up? Have you found any other opportunities that you feel competitive for? If yes, you can decide to sit on the offer and wait a few days (but not more). If not, (if it were me), I would feel much more comfortable "looking" for the next step while building time at a respectable operator with good equipment gaining valuable experience at Planesense. In the current economic environment, 18 months may be just right to pad your logbook with flight time and be much more competitive when the industry returns to normal.

you will be getting PIC turbine (unless hired as an FO), at a 135 op. "Turbine PIC _____" box on future major apps can be checked. not a bad scenario while things shake out.

What job are you leaving now? CFI? Yeah, take the job. You need to broaden your experience so you will be competitive when REgionals start hiring again a few years from now. Plus competitive mins will be way up there once they do.
