What are your times right now? I've been researching the regionals lately and yes, there are places that will pay more and have you flying bigger airplanes... but the bases you can pick and the upgrade time and the stability fo this company and history furloughing (or lack thereof) are worth it... I just turned down an interview invitation from Piedmont today (their upgrade time is 4 years last I heard)... I will also turn down the ASA interview invitation because I don't want to live in Atlanta or SoCal and I don't want to move... Let me know if you have any questions. The only bad thing you'll hear about it is that some people are worked a lot... BOOHOO!!!

I couldn't agree with you more. I like Colgan because of their base locations (one of them is my hometown). The other reason is their upgrade times. I'm in Man asses right now and the word is, the time to upgrade to capt has been lowered to "1000 hours in type". No total time requirement anymore. That means around 14 months to start logging PIC...less if you bust your butt. So, theoretically, a Colgan pilot could be flying right seat for Southwest before most jet guys even make it to the left seat of the RJ. Good luck and see you out there.

N618FT I like how you seem to know EVERYTHING about Colgan yet you havent even started training yet. Wait until you start getting junior manned on your days off and having to do MX repos to Mannassas on your last flight at 11:30pm then getting the run around once you get there. Im not complaining about Colgan but there are some things here that could surely use some improvement. And Im not trying to get into a pi$$ing match with you but before you talk about us whining just get your feet wet first.
btw what base are you going to try for?

I know nothing :) so I'll shut up. How long have you been there, where are you based, and what can you tell me? If you can keep some information to PMs, I'd appreciate it. Some personal experiences are better left to PMs I'd think... Bases... State College, Charleston, Charlottesville, Rochester, Columbus, Allentown, Ithaca... would be my top choices... only 1-2 cities on there look like somewhere I wouldn't want to go... any advice? I don't know what bases are popular or where they need the most people... that would help though... and I don't mind dealing with a less than ideal schedule until I get some seniority in... someone's gotta do it right? I'm sure that gets old after a while though. I'm probably so giddy and excited about this that some of my reasoning's gone straight out the window... I've been waiting for this since I was 2.

Well aparently I dont have enough posts to be able to PM you.. But Id like to answer any questions you may have. Im based at Charleston and I like it here. The pilots are all great and there is a slight variety to the flying so its not just the same trips over and over. I havent been based anywhere else but I have a friend in State College and he seems to really like it there as well. You can rule out Columbus because it's going to be closed here very shortly. You'll put your bid in for your base choices during your last week of ground school and the only advice I can give you is to just prepare to be flexable because they are going to send you to wherever they want you to go to begin with. You may get your first choice within a month or two. The only base I would advise against unless your just from the area is Manassas! This is where the Colgan "Brain" is located and you dont really want to be around that every day.... Just take it one step at a time though. There's nothing wrong with being excited I know I was thrilled when I got the job offered to me. But once you start the ball rolling in ground school its going to get VERY busy and you should just worry about learning how the airline operates and most of all the Saab. Then worry about bases and lines.
