Can a first meeting turn into an interview?

Through a friend of the family I have the opportunity to meet with the Delta recruiters while I'm visiting Atlanta over Thanksgiving. Due to the situation I'm in, ie, my current job in the military, and the associated fact that I haven't been flying for 2 years, I've previously been hesitant to take them up on the offer to meet with these recruiters.

Basically I'm afraid that I'll blow the first impression if I get asked any questions that I'm not prepared for due to being a little rusty.

I am viewing this as no different than meeting these guys at a job fair, ie, an opportunity to meet face to face, introduce myself, and perhaps ask a few questions about what they are looking for, and try to gauge if I fall within that realm.

Having never been to a job fair either, what should I expect from a first meeting with a pilot recruiter? Will they ask any technical questions?

I guess what I'm really asking is, should I study as if I'm going in for the interview for this first meeting? Is there anything in particular I should do to prepare? Also, what kind of attire would be appropriate?

meet with them how...In their offices? If so treat it as a full blown interview.. if in a casual setting .. maybe a little less so.

Possibly valid concern, try to get more info.

If it is a job-fair sort of thing, it is usually more of a meet-and-greet personality check ( a few airlines have been known to conduct full-on interviews or mini-technical interviews at job fairs).

I'd say study as much as you can just to be safe (but I kind of doubt they'll get too technical in your case...presumably they know you're on a ground tour).

Start with basic theory and IFR knowledge, then maybe look at your most recent airplane. I doubt they would ask you 121 questions, so that would be the last priority.

Oh, yeah...learn about the company and have some intelligent questions for them.

Thanks guys, I'll try to get more info. Basically a friend of the family works there and said he'd take me to meet the recruiters, but I don't have any more specifics than that.
